View Full Version : Taillight wiring question? to ground or not to ground?

Just put on a hinged FLH fender on my bike, with a new taillight. Harness has 6 wires running to the taillight. Ground, running light, brake light, left sig, right sig, and a accessory which is dead. My question is this: Do i need to ground the taillight on one of the posts/bolts going through the fender? Right now the only wires I have hooked are the running and brake light to the tailight and the L/R turn signals. Signals are mounted low on the shock bolts. Everything works fine, I'm just concerned about the ground wire not being connected. Are they grounding themselves through the taillight/fender or the shock bolts, respectively? Any info, I would really appreciate it.

Yes, they are grounding themselves. Just make sure they're making good contact with clean bare metal. No problem. The real problem with grounding and lights is the headlight needs a dedicated ground.
