There was a serious wobble in my clutch basket so I disassembled it so what the issue is. (Open 1.5" belt set up) Theres a lot of play in and out with the retainer. The shaft is fine. Nothing moves besides the retainer. My question is, what is the acceptable range for of play? I don't know how to upload a video from my phone or else I would have. Do I just need a new retainer or is there another culprit? Thanks for any advice.

That's normal to see shake with that ...
Most of the time when there is mega shake with the drum, the rollers are worn down or have worn paths on the hub/clutch basket...

An easy cure is to replace the retainer/bearings with the "Big Fix" ....

https://www.revzilla.com/product_images/0300/8594/bdl_big_fix_roller_bearing_kit_for_harley4_speed_t ransmissions_zoom.jpg

A "must have" "big fix" rollor bearing kit also known as "ram jet" for big twin 1941-E84. 53pc. replaces old offset bearings and retainer. Creating a more positive smoother basket. wobble free.

Increased basket and hub life.
