09-06-2017, 11:21 AM
Have not only a shelter-in place-plan, but an evac plan and a "preserve your equipment, parts and tools" plan.

I use this to preventing flash rust bare metal. Even if your structure remains intact the increased humidity from local flooding can be a problem.

"The whole house was ripping apart"

After Irma left Barbuda, ABS TV Radio in Antigua gained access to the island and interviewed residents. One woman who was home with her children and brother during the hurricane called it "the worst experience of my life."

"It was like the whole house was ripping apart," the woman told ABS TV Radio. As the wind whipped her home, her daughter called 911. "They told us to go into the closet or use bathroom so that’s exactly what we did."

The family split up and the woman sought refuge with her three children in the bathroom. They held onto the bathroom door as the wind rattled their home...

Nearly 16 million people across 10 countries, states and territories in the Atlantic are in the path of Hurricane Irma.

The deadly Category 5 storm left devastation and death in its wake and as it continues menacing north, more destruction is expected.

Irma has quickly intensified to become the strongest hurricane anywhere in the Atlantic since 2005 and at least nine people, including an infant, have been killed in Irma-ravaged islands.

Right now the Florida Keys and parts of the Miami and Fort Lauderdale area are under mandatory evacuation orders. But more people on the Atlantic coast will likely be required to leave, FEMA administrator Brock Long said.

He said he expects officials in Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina to start ordering evacuations in the next day or two.

"The entire southeastern United States better wake up and pay attention," Long said.

There will likely be more evacuations, FEMA head says

Hey drags the BBQBIKER is more than willing to relocate any 1936-1969 motors and associated pieces/parts to a safe and dry location here in Massachusetts. I have a truck waiting just PM me your address and have the loading dock clear.

Sounds like a heavy load. Stop by on the return trip and I'll improve your fuel mileage out of the goodness of my heart.

Speaking of vultures circling a wagon train, there will be a lot of vehicles for sale after the storm passes. Anything with insurance coverage will go through Copart and other auction houses, but look out for a glut on the market. Licensed dealers can buy direct, but if you don't have a dealerbro some dealers will bid for you for a commission. (Plenty more info online.)

There will also be lots of vehicles people didn't insure and just want to be rid of. Someone's gonna nail them so it may as well be a 33er. If you buy direct from the owner and get clear title that's always a good thing, not for fraudulent rebuilds (but ya better expect to see lots of those, usually for expensive trucks because trucks are easy to do) but for projects.

Someone with storage space, local connections and a flatbed trailer score heavy then make a mint off salvage. Fresh rain water isn't salty storm surge.

Well Jesse it looks like it's gonna miss us {right now} but it's taking a direct path to you...... Be safe my friend................

Not to be morbid but if you don't have highly detailed video of everything you own this might be a good time to take it with a running narration of what it is (but not what it's worth because if ya need to collect, careful research post-storm may get you more money).

For example "dildo refacer with 10 choad collets" etc. No doubt ya have most of it logged as assets but everyone accumulates more shit than they list.

I wish you well but if it doesn't go well, I wish you money, because nothing dries tears like pictures of dead Presidents.

One of the paths take the eye right down my street. Literally if you followed the track, it crosses over the retention pond in my back yard.

House is poured block wall and pretty new. We are no where near flood zone, so I am not under any evac orders....but we are ready to bug out at a moments notice.

Now I heard it all ......

Irma: Gun owners in Florida plan to 'shoot down' hurricane

'Let's show Irma that we shoot first,' states Facebook event....

Gun owners in Florida have vowed to respond to Hurricane Irma by “shooting at” the storm.

Tens of thousands of people have joined an event advertised on Facebook to tackle the hurricane currently bearing down on Florida, in an attempt to “show Irma that we shoot first”.
Irma, the most powerful Atlantic Ocean hurricane in recorded history, has already wrought destruction in the Caribbean, killing at least 22 people.

“A combination of stress and boredom made me start the event. The response is a complete and total surprise to me," the 22-year-old told BBC Newsbeat.

"I never envisioned this event becoming some kind of crazy idea larger than myself. It has become something a little out of my control."
Some people appear to have taken the plan seriously, including one Facebook user who posted an image of himself holding a gun, along with the message: “I’m not going to sit around and wait, I’m going straight into the eye.”

Others responded to it with scepticism, with one user writing: “Isn't this just going to make the weather madder?”

Diagram being shared showing people how to shoot the hurricane (screen grab)
Another Florida resident has made an event encouraging people to “shoot flames” at the storm.

“It's time we took a stand against this big bully! This our home nobody drives us out of our own territory,” states the event description.

“Join me in this fight as we shoot flames at Hurricane Irma and dissipate her on the spot. She will burn.”

Now not only ya gotta dodge flying road signs, up rooted trees, cars and whatever else Irma going to throw at ya ....
Ya got bullets in the mix....!!!

Jesse post when you can.............. Be safe my friend and all in the path of the storm...........

09-10-2017, 7:28 AM
Irma is just now hammering the Keys and is moving North at a slow speed of 7 mph ...
Be late Sunday before she gets to my area of the state....
The sky is a dark gray .. We are seeing rain from the outer bands .. This is one huge storm that is larger than the whole state of Florida ...
Think Irma is rated a Cat 4 (130 mph winds) at the moment ...

On Saturday evening, Gov. Rick Scott of Florida warned that the state could get as much as 18 inches of rain, with the Keys getting up to 25 inches. Southwest Florida could see a storm surge of 15 feet above ground level, and entire neighborhoods stretching northward from Naples to Tampa Bay could be submerged.

They are saying it could increase in strength to a Cat 5 again when it diverts into the warm waters of the Gulf ...

She's a mean bitch, this one is .. !!
(Kinda reminds me of my X) ....

She's down to a Cat 3, but as said earlier could gain strength in the Gulf and make landfall near Tampa ....

09-10-2017, 4:00 PM
Damn it looks rough down there..... It looks like it's coming this way now...... That's one big MFER...............

09-10-2017, 4:45 PM
Down to a Cat 2 .... Winds is at around 96 to 110 mph...

Anywhere you look at the sky, it's a dull gray and been raining all day, most likely all day tomorrow too.... Flooding will be a problem..
Even though the storm is diminishing as it travels north, tornados can spawn...
Hoping by the time (Around 10 or 11 o'clock) it gets to my area the wind speed will be in the 70's or 80's ???

09-10-2017, 4:59 PM
Fingers crossed it'll drop. It's midnight here-must be around seven with you. Hope to hear all's well tomorrow with you.

09-10-2017, 5:03 PM

09-10-2017, 8:25 PM
Damn Jesse it looks like it's going inland closer your way...... Hope it takes a stage left.............

09-11-2017, 3:54 AM
She's losing her punch, been downgraded to a Cat 1 ...
Still heavy winds at 85 and gusts to 130 mph and wave after wave of rain....
I hadn't ventured out of my safe zone to check out the damage mostly because Irma hasn't made it this far North yet. The speed of the storm has increased to 15 mph....

By the time Irma leaves the state, should be downgraded to a Tropical Depression ..

09-11-2017, 6:39 AM
Glad to see your ok and still have power??? Stay safe............

09-11-2017, 7:07 AM
6 million without power...
My lights flickered twice but didn't lose power....
The wind is kicking, nowhere what it was last night....Wind speed is around 40 mph...
Should be calming down mid afternoon...??

Light rain and it's off and on, the worst is over as Irma moves out of the state ....
At least 5 dead here in Flordia.... Think the count will go up during the recovery....

Irma sure torn up some sh*t....
Only damage that I sustained was the neighbors flag pole dropping on my fence...
She must have not liked the Confederate Battle flag he had flying... Hehehe
The Key's, Miami and the Caribbean got slammed pretty hard ....

Now for Jose .....

Wow .....
The Sun just popped out ..... I'll take that as a sign .....
(I'm running out of chickens to kill, and it's hard to dance in hip waders..!!!)

09-11-2017, 8:53 AM
Glad ur ok Dragstews. I own a place due east of you in Edgewater that I rent out. My tenant says they never lost power and no damage at all to the house or detached garage.

09-11-2017, 10:43 AM
Thanks ....

Irma seemed to pick her victims and set her crosshairs on certain parts of the state.....
The tomados that she spawned did a lot of destruction ...

I'm definitely counting my blessings ....
There for about two hours I was ready to ......

Man that is awesome, it sounds like you dodged a bullet.........

09-11-2017, 8:01 PM
With the extensive amount of damage I saw on the way to the shop, I consider myself very fortunate ...
Irma was a Cat 2 when she got to my neck of the woods....
Power was out at the shop and may not be restored for up to 5 days....
Duke Power will have their hand full with the repairs ..... Every store ln Belleview was close, Police and Firemen was in abundance keeping people safe from downed power lines ...

Main roads has been cleared of debri for the most part, large trees has been pulled out of the roads but not yet removed...
Clean up will take awhile, had thoughts of volunteering my services tomorrow to the city.
(More than likely they will take one look at me and tell me to go home, you old coot, and stay out of our way..!!!)

09-12-2017, 6:20 AM
Glad the shop looked ok..... It was damn rough here yesterday...... Trees and power lines are down everywhere here even we had 65 mph gust..... Around 130,000 people are out of power......

I was having a Mac attack, went online to see if the local Mickey D's was open ... It was....
Hopped my happy ass in the car and pointed it toward FOOD ....
Seems that I wasn't the only one that was having a Mac attack... Cars was lined up all the way around the restaurant. Took a good 45 minutes to order... !!!

Ya know, that Big Mac tasted realy good, for some reason...

Mega clean up is going on ...

NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) will finally reopen today, just over one week after it closed to prepare for Hurricane Irma.
.../// https://youtu.be/N-MhgWy1o3s \\\...

Some parts of the state are still without power ...
Road crews are out in force and most likely will be very busy for the rest of the month or longer...

However, for the most part Florida is recouping ....

09-16-2017, 12:16 PM
Did you guys see the head of the sheriff's office in Florida issued an official statement asking people not to shoot at Irma?
