First time playin mechanic with my sportster and ive got some basic questions before i reassemble.

1.Ive got aluminum dust all up in my cam cover, best way to get it all out? Auto parts guy said spray with carb cleaner. Should i soak it in somethin?

2.Best way to clean my dust and oil covered cam gears?

3. The manual says to place the metal gasket which goes between the rocker box and the head bead side up. Does that mean it is implying to use a gasket sealant?

4. My engine is probably gonna sit for at least another 6 months. What should i apply Assembly lube to. Everything? I assume the gears and pushrod ends. Inside the rocker box?

Help much appreciated.

Solvent, a brush and compressed air.
Hot soapy water or mineral spiritsis fine.
No need to use expensive volatile chemicals. Plus the fumes..
Spray down with w-d after drying.

3
No sealant. If a "bead" is printed or stamped, flip it top side.
Copper coat spray won't hurt though.

4
White lithium grease will stay put, yet melt into the oil upon startup.
Assembly lube will not stay and heavier grease can clog oil passages.
Use it wherever there is metal to metal contact.

Metal shavings... Clean out the case...? There is something going on there. Diagnose and repair. Wash the bike after its fixed.
