Your frame doesn't have a VIN...... There might be a number on the top motor mount unless it's a replacement..... Without seeing more pics I would guess a 56 57?? That frame has seen better days but it is still a nice frame..... There is some think funky about the neck, Knuckle frame??? It could be a Knuck frame with the wrong top mount??? But it's still worth $1500 and up depending what it looks like with the motor out.....

The top motor mount is a replace ment.. If it could be a knuckleframe would it be hard to mount a panhead inn it.. loads of fab??

It already has a Panhead in it. If it is a knucklehead frame the seat post would have to be relieved to have the wider Panhead motor fit.
A crime these days to do to a nice knucklehead frame. Straight leg pan frames were 55-57.

Yep that's why I said I'd like to see more pics of the frame.... I haven't seen that part of the frame yet..... Still waiting..........

If you can read the hallmarks on the rear axle clip, the last number will help narrow it down. I have an early 54 that was still a wishbone and it reads XE-7 followed by some foundry hieroglyphic, then the 15, which makes it a early 54, according to records.

hey man it stands XE-6 then some numbers i cant read..then on the other side its xe-7 then the 17 i think...

Yep just like I was leaning, I'd say it started it's life as a Knuckle frame....

The down tube has been notched so there you go....

What year???? More info is needed......

i found this on ebay and on the frame vin stamps its the same as i have on my frame. So i guess my frame is a 1946 knuckleframe???

Yep that's very possible it's a 46..... But your frame is NOWHERE as nice as that frame............ But if you spent about $2500.00 on it you could have one almost as nice..... Your frame will never be that nice again....

Not really you still have a nice frame... For what it is..... I didn't want you to think that your frame is worth that kind of money..... I would think it could still bring at least $1800 to the right person or even more if you were lucky...

What are you wanting to do part out the bike??? What are you wanting for the motor if you are???

Look close at his pics.... See the way the down tube is notched to clear the rear head... A pan frame wouldn't have to be cut out like that.... Plus where is the neck lock??

He didn't say anything about a 16... If he did I missed it.....

It's not a Panhead frame....

xe-6 is the right side xe-7 is the left followed by foundry hallmark then a die number 15 or 16

Got ya..... So you say it's a pan frame just by the axle plates..... Even though he hasn't said a thing about a 15 or a 16....

Ok now what about the neck... What happened to the neck lock?

LOL Hell I've just been thinking about this...... This isn't my frame and I gave my opinion..... If you think it's a pan frame so be it..... Be sure and tell him all the reasons you think it is a Pan.... Either way it's a decent frame..... It's a great frame for a rider.... Pan or a Knuck........

agree, and I am just trying to help clarify...part of the fun is learning the history. I encourage him to do his research...I have personally owned pan frames that have been so debaucherized, that I wondered if I could get them to resemble anything close to a motorcycle frame ever again...

That's a DAMN nice looking bike.... I'm glad your putting it back on the road.... I bet it is very hard building a bike there... We are very lucky to be able to buy the parts we need and not pay even more to get it to us....

Post some pics when it's finished.....

I stand corrected. Glad you got it sorted out. Good luck on your project!
