I recently put 30mm amal carbs on a friends project im helping out with, since i had them on a shelf and the stock mikunis had unfixable(at zero budget)leaks.
Straightforward install and fires first or second kick!
Took it out baselined(but one needle a notch too low i found later) at 200 mains, 106 needle jet, stock needle, middle groove, stock slide, 1,5 turns on the air screw and it ran beautifully except for the needle bit. Didnt seem to choke the engine, and great throttle response. Will try and get a pic up.

Twin or 4 cylinder KZ?

Nice to hear one it back to running well. There is just something about the KZ bikes that I dig.

Its a twin, luckily, would be hell trying to synch and tune four amals in a row!

Figured it would have to be a twin. Seems like all the Craigslist KZ750 that pop up are 4 cylinders. Again nice work.

I have one of those KZ750 twins, Rode it for years as my rat bike. Thats the KZ750B and kind of rare. I liked it but the reason it got parked was the CV style stock carbies,,, Was meaning to get it running again with round slide VM Mikunis, Yamaha XS twins also have this same problem, MikesXS page and others commonly sell kits to replace the carbs on these. I totally get using the AMALS as they are availible but not my favorite carbs. But the stock CV type carbs are junk IMHO.
For while I thought about turning mine into a chopper,, now leaning more towards cafe racer. But it doesnt seem like ANY performance parts for them,, although mine does have a factory 2>1 pipe,. but no cams, big bore kits or anything. But they make a nice bike. I never cared for the Yammmie XS bikes...

Yea mainly it was for free, and kinda looks cool. Im moving house and renovating so i just kinda slapped those on there when i had a few minutes over in the garage, no tuning yet.
Looking forward to a test ride and tune! The triumph chop gets all countryside duty nowadays.
