So ive been trolling ChopCult for sometime for inspiration, tips, etc. I didnt see many Honda VT1100 builds...probably cause its considered a touring cruiser. So I decided to post my build for anyone interested, looking for inspiration, etc. Anywho I got this bike from my father in-law back in 2009 for $1,500 after getting ran off the road last October I got a check for $3,000 so this is a $4,500 bike after all said and done.

My image for this build was to rake it out and add some old school touch with an aggressive paint scheme, slick, clean, but still an everyday rider and ok for long roadtrips, hence why it remains a soft-tail.

In the beginning this honda was very old man style...

I initially removed the exhaust and tail pipes and swapped for some straight pipes, apes, and blacked out paint

Then the day came where some asshole cager decided to run me off the road in the middle of a curve...luckily the insurance company funded my build! So first things first was changing up the gas tank. Since Honda sucks at providing them at a reasonable cost I purchased a stretched bagger tank online for $300, cut out the bottom, and fabbed it up to fit the fat back bone this bike has...was a 6.6 gallon tank, now its like 5 gallons.

Once the tank was fabbed up and no leaks were found, we stripped the monster down to prep and paint the tins and rake out the front end.

now that the tins were off it was time to prep for paint. Removed all lights attached to the rear fender, stripped it down to bare metal, filled in the holes, got it nice and smooth, and put down a seal/primer coat

I then used the hydrodipping method to add the graphics that i wanted incorporated to the paint scheme. Real simple and cool process and way cheaper than airbrushing.

75174

Then it was time to tape off for the top coat of paint and red pinstriping.

Here is how it turned out after paint, striping, and clear coat.

75176

Then it we were off to installing the raked front end (added 18 degrees and + 10")

75177

We hand twisted the square stock, filed it down to look as seamless as possible, drilled and tapped the top to add a guidon topper acquired while i was in the Marines

We then welded up the dual fishtail exhaust, fabbed the heat shields and sent them and the sissy bar off to be chromed. The only part we didnt do in the garage was the chrome plating.

Final outcome was a one of a kind build that kept in mind with my vision:
- 2000 Honda Shadow Aero VT1100C3
- Added 18 degree rake +10" totaling 50 degrees of rake
- Some new skull risers and grips to keep with the paint theme
- Custom fabbed gas tank and rear fender
- In house paint job, Fish tail exhaust, and sissy bar
- Side mounted tail light

Behold the CHONDA DAVIDSON
