Im doing a xs650 build. Ive red a few threads here about slack on a rigid, without tensioner. Around 1/2" ?!

But if i run a tensioner, weld-on from troyfab. Should i adjust it so i still have that 1/2" slack?

(My bike on the pic but have not installed the tensioner yet, since i want to know this first =)

Simple answer, yes , one half inch.

Seems to be corn-fusion on these things and what they do.
That there is not a tensioner. Its an adjustable guide.
Use it along with the axle adjusters (if extant) to adjust the chain periodically.

A chain tensioner is spring loaded. It applies spring tension to a chain.
If you had a tensioner...Adjust the chain to spec with tensioner disengaged. Then let it do its thing.
Adjustments will still be necessary as the sprockets wear, just not as often.
