New user here making a little build thread for my 2016 Sr400. Bought in March of this year with a bobber/brat build in mind and rode 1100 miles in stock form. Starting the thread a few weekends after tearing into it. Made decent progress so far, stripped it down a bit, mocked up a tank and got the rear suspension sorted. Tank is a paughco mustang tank but the narrow tunnel made it sit too high for my liking on the wide oil in frame backbone. Cut the tunnel out and widened it up to get it sitting better. Rear shocks are some generic 11 inch shorty eye to eye units, front forks are dropped in the trees for now, but will get lowered more with a spacer soon. From here plans include chopping the frame behind the shock mounts, some sort of rear fender, solo seat, smaller headlight and possibly relacing the stock wheels to a 21/16 set up. Thanks for checking in! I'll update as i go. Hopefully the pictures work.

Nice start! looking forward to seeing more.

I thought it was great when Yamaha brought the sr400 to the states hope it makes it a few years here.

Got the headlight mounted up today. Now to figure out what to do with that wiring that in the stock headlight. Getting rid of as much as i can, but being a FI bike there is a lot. Wiring should keep me busy for a bit, going to tackle that and work out a seat next.

If you're not super familiar with wiring, either spend the dough and pick up the M-Unit.
Either that or retrograde back to a carb
There's info on how to do it..
Good luck with the Bike
Webbike japan is also an abundant resource

Been a while since my last update. Haven't had the time to get my aftermarket tank to work yet. The needs of the fuel injection were tricky to figure out with the feeds to the pump, and return from the fuel pressure regulator, but I think I have it all worked out. In the meantime the stock tank was thrown back on and we went to Daytona for bike week. Had a blast bombing around on it. Heres the progress since my last post.

Harness removed and simplified. Re-taped it all with cloth electrical tape.
Lowbrow customs Tail light and plate mount installed.
Solo seat installed using mount from Goods (Japan).
Frame cut behind seat and welded shut.
Rear fender and mount from Garage T&F (Japan) installed.
Made a single gauge mount for the stock speedo, and removed the tach. Plugged tachometer drive.

From here getting that tank sorted and contemplating going hardtail and redoing the back half of the frame. Working google translate pretty hard to get whatever info I can on hardtail SR's. Weather in the northeast is still pretty shitty, so I still have time to chop stuff up.
