Hey guys new to the forum, long time lurker. You're all a plethora of knowledge and are a great inspiration to the bike industry. I love all the great ideas I get by looking at builds. I picked up this 1976 kz400 from a buddy that started it but lost motivation about 8 months ago. It has a clean title, original owners Manual and service manual. Not that it matters to me really, I just wanted a title! It was stripped down to a bare frame and had a Tc bros hard tail kit half ass tack welded on, that was it. After unloading the frame, box full of shiat, and the boat anchor 400cc 200 lbs of shat motor I decided no way in hell its getting to have glory on this build. I reengineered the frame design and decided to build a two stroke rat bike killer machine. I'm gonna post a couple pics and see what you guys think. It's a cross between a fucked up mind I have and a touch of Indian Larry style. Hate it or love it I'll post some updates. Just a quick back ground on me, I've owned a mess of jap street bikes and a couple Harley's in my short 26 years of being here, 10 happily on two wheels. My favorite being the street bob. As my screen name implies I am a die hard jeep enthusiast as well. Building things with my hands is what makes up my DNA.

Looks badass man. I dig the dished tank. What 2 stroke motor did you swap to?

Thanks! It's a 1985 kx500. I have the motor mounts all tacked up. I plan to get it started and make sure it runs when I get back to work on it. A lot of custom fab work to do yet. I'm trying to buy as little as possible for it.

I dig the mad Max bobber style you got going. 2 stroke, knobbies, low slung hell raiser. If nothing else they will here you coming.

Nice! Me and my brother had several kx250s growing up. It should haul ass.

I can't wait to get it on the street. I've not seen a two stroke bike ever living here in md. I'm setting up a commercial powdercoating operation currently so this will be a great showcase of fab skill and powder sitting in the show room. I'll post some updates as I make progress. Only obstacle I see is the electrical system. Kx 500 didn't run lights or anything so I'm probably gonna run a lighting coil that's only 40 watts max out put. Lithium battery, minimal load I think I'll be able to make it work.

Well now that I have you the background on it I'll share some pics that led up to this point.
Picked it up like this and you can see how the frame isn't straight.

To each there own I guess but I'll trade a little rake up front for a straight looking frame any day of the week. I disassembled what little there was and redesigned the frame to my liking.

Next was the fitment of the rad new tires.

Started ordering parts, tank and motor were eBay specials. Matching vintage procircuit pipe and all. I wasn't to keen on how high the tank sat up on the frame so I hacked the tunnel out of it and fabbed a new one a little deeper so it would sit further down.

Most the small stuff the like head stay brackets and motor mounts are time consuming but not really worth pics. They kinda just show up as I build them. I had a sprocket custom machined from a company in Wisconsin that matched the kz wheel bolt pattern to the original kx500 chain size. I want to say is 520, o-ring.

They hooked me up with a matching chain as well. I bought a velocity stack for the intake since clearance is super tight to the back bone of the frame. It fits like it was meant to be there.

You can't really tell but that small oil tank under the seat was another brilliant idea I had. It's just a two stroke oil reservior so I'm not carrying a bottle in my pocket. I plan to have a valve on the bottom and incorporate some kinda cool pre marked measuring tool to the bike for ease at the gas pump. It's got bungs welded in for a sight tube as well. A lot to go but the list is getting smaller and smaller.

Yea it would, that was air cooled I think. That's another hurdle with the 500. If I considered it more I would have opted for air cooled. Just gonna rock what I got

Hand down one of the coolest hardtail bobbers I've seen. I love the 2 stroke engine. I plan on something along these lines of I ever finish my current ascot vt500 tracker build.
