View Full Version : 86 Virago 1100 Chopper Mashup?

I totally failed to properly document this last build I completed but still wanted to post up the stuff that was done to make this ugly daily commuter bike into what I thought was a pretty dope chop. We cut the sides of the tank out and swapped sides and re welded them in and I welded in a 1/4" round bar on the hard edge and contoured it with a grinder. Re worked the rear hoop and used a narrowed rear portion of another Virago gas tank to make the rear cafe style fender. Made the rabbit ears using some bends off other misc bars in the garage and the inserts connecting the left to right side of the bars was from an old car steering wheel anti theft device we hacked up.

Modified a six piston caliper and made an adapter to bolt this up and get rid of the other rotor and caliper. We did some fancy powdercoat and I wanted to show that off. Seat pan completed. You can also see the tank sides a little better here.

Stainless pipes with a portion of the pipe coming from something you would find in a hospital in the restrooms or stairwells. The stainless kinda had a knurled textured vibe.

Finished product on the road. You can also see in the last photo the custom intake we made and Harley CV Carb we used with an internal velocity stack and a lexan air cleaner cover we cut so you could see inside the carb. Shame I don't have a photo but the white powercoat also has a glow in the dark clear powder on it. Looked like a ghost at night, kinda psychedelic.

On a side note the power to weight ratio on this bike was good. I raced the shit out of this thing at the Smokeout last year and the only v-twin that beat me was a V-rod and he only came around me at the 1000ft mark. He wasn't thrilled about chasing this little bike to the finish line. She is gone now and was traded for parts for my 66 Chevy Truck.

I dig your rear fender. That was one of the options that I was thinking about going with - or something like it.
