considering picking up a set of Sputhe cases with no internals just cases. What am I looking at as far as getting what I need for the internals? I know Sputhe isn't active anymore does anyone sell something that will fit? Could I use Harley 5 speed stuff? Just trying to weigh my options here before I spent money on the cases. Any help is much appreciated!

Just had mine rebuilt and it used alot of 80-85 5 speed parts, like the 1st and 2nd fork, top cover gasket was 80-85 etc. I think that is about what everything is in them

Is he still making transmission?

He's slowing down with alot of his products, been at least 25 years since he had made any "Nitroalloy Crankcases"

Call him.... Ask questions.... The Man is a straight shooter...

Awesome thanks man

But of course there might be some exceptions to the rest of the parts... call the man and you shall find out. Post back up with all the details if you don't mind, it would be nice to document them here for the future! Some day all of the knowledge will be gone unless we can document it!

Also weigh a complete Softail five-speed transplant if you want non-shit electric start (or the option to fit it later). I've not done one but they can be very reasonable and used spline-shaft trannys are plentiful.

Sputhe case on Ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sputhe-5-into-4-transmission-case-/111974985140?hash=item1a123aadb4:g:3IgAAOSwd3dXF50 k&vxp=mtr

A poster in this thread did a Baker 6 speed into his 4 speed softail so since a Softy trans can fit a Shovel with some work you might consider going that route:

I put a Baker 6 in a 4 speed case in my 4 speed Softail...just because it said it would NOT fit. Been cruzin in overdrive for 5 years.

EDIT: Rivera page showing how the swap is done with a belt drive:

If one of my Shovels gives me an excuse it's getting a Softail trans conversion.
