got a new project. my lady just got a kz440. its a 1980 something? i havent seen the bike in person yet, but i'm trying to research a couple things before i get going on it. i want to lower the rear end a bit but she wants to keep the shocks, whats a good set of aftermarket rear shocks that will fit that bike? i've checked on the progressive and ohlin sites and i havent been able to find any of their models that fit the kawasaki kz series. Anybody got a suggestion for me?

Any shock that has a eye-to-eye mount set up (almost all do) will fit, just pick the length you want. Measure the shocks on it now and subtract a few inches. Progressive has the best rep for cheap shocks. Stay away from Olins unless you want the shocks to cost more than the bike.

Some alternatives would be drop shackles or cut the seat down lower.

yeah. ive been having trouble finding shorter shocks for my kz650. i know the suzuki savage. or any other suzuki s40 model has some pretty short shocks. not to sure if they fit, but they look like the same setup.

I've seen some dudes run moped shocks on their swingarms. Could work on a light bike like a kz440 but you may have to fab up your own mounts. You could also try 11" sportster shocks or changing the top mounting point ,angling it forward?

a good trick to get it lower is to extend the swing arm... it changes the angle of the stock shocks so you dont have to throw money into new parts... There is a dude in Denver that can do it for you and would probably cost less than the shocks, the end result would look killer on a kx 440, i hate to use the term but it would help give it that bratstyle look...

this is his enfield, i spoke to him about extending the swing arm on mine like he did on his, he is starting up his own fab shop, so...

on a stock enfield the rear struts are only at about 12:30-1:00, these are at 2 o'clock+ with just the addition of about 3" on the swingarm
