View Full Version : Honda Shadow - Chain hitting battery box under swing arm...

Hi.

I have overlooked a major issue, though thankfully we checked to see the chain clearance first.

I have a 1991 Honda Shadow VLX600. I am doing what a lot of people do, tuck the battery under the swing arm to get it out the way, once you take all the nasty stock grubbins out. But my chain is directly in line with the battery box. My thinking was smaller lithium battery but it seems like an extra cost and a bit fancy.

What do most people do here? I don't want to lower the battery box as it will show from the bottom.

Any ideas would be great.

I used the tray from a Chinese mini atv. It was basically two pieces of bar stock vent around the center of each side. I welded in three sides and used the side against the chain to act as a protector. My battery is actually in between the chain vertically so the bottom of the chain in lower than the bottomof the battery and the top of the chain is higher. The metal around has no marks on it after about 200 miles. And the clearance is about 7mm.http://i1146.photobucket.com/albums/o528/sdustin/20160420_080013_zpsnb0ksi9u.jpg (http://s1146.photobucket.com/user/sdustin/media/20160420_080013_zpsnb0ksi9u.jpg.html)

Yeah that's tight. I am going to get a smaller lithium battery I think. No matter how I did it with the current battery there was no way it was gonna clear.
Thanks for pic.

Mine been just fine. There really shouldn't be that much side to side. Like i said with the clearance I've got ive 200 plus miles and there is no marks or anything to indacate the chain is hitting.

Sealed battery? Set it on it's side.
