View Full Version : Advice on '96 Vulcan 1500 Gas cap swap

I'm new to this forum, found a couple of links that looked promising on a google search but nothing exactly fit my questions, so I joined up to try and learn a few things.
I'm working on a 1996 Kawasaki Vulcan 1500C, and want to remove that ugly chrome overlay they put on the make it looka bit more like a Harley. However, the gas cap for my model screws in without a lock; the lock is in that chrome housing, as part of the hinged door to get at the fill aperture. I'm searching for a gas cap with a 1.25"/32mm shaft and a lock in the center (every one on other bike models seem to be closer to 38mm, or 1.5"). So far, I've checked the following without success:

Various years of Yamaha Virago
1998 Vulcan 1500 Drifter, 96 Vulcan 800, and a few other year/size Vulcan combos
1997 Intruder
2015 Vulcan 800 & 1500

It looks like some of the older bikes might use the smaller cap, but I've yet to find a single one. Anyone ever try this or have any suggestions?
