Tonight, actually. We just carved up prices and such and are ready to release them. $83 gets a set. Tyler has some and they'll be on the Unit1 store later tonight and on the Chop Cult store over the next couple days. Sorry for the wait.

See throttles here: Lowbrow (http://lowbrowcustoms.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=511)

You'll note they are not branded Biltwell. They work lovely, I have two of them on two bikes. Our issue with it was that when clamped tight on the bars there is about a 1/16" or so gap on either side. We weren't happy with it but the factory jumped the gun and made a bunch. We sold them to Lowbrow where Tyler can blow 'em out as unbranded generic throttles. If you don't mind that tiny gap, these are a good deal. When they are perfect and clamp exactly how we want them they are going to be nearly twice that MSRP. I have no idea when we'll have ours, it'll be months most likely. We kind of got sick of the project and vendor and have moved on to other stuff. We'll come back to it eventually.

saw those on lowbrow yesterday - looked pretty nice - what you mean gap? gotta shim it or something?? they clamp tight on a 1" bar or...???

billdozer

No need to shim, and yes they clamp nice and solid. The issue is purely aesthetic. When tightened down on the bar, there is a gap where the two pieces meet.

Here's a couple pics of the one on my bike, a little hard to see but I think you can tell what I'm talking about.

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/billdozer/3841303643/" title="throttle2 by Billdozer, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2421/3841303643_430d83e849.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="throttle2" /></a>
(front view)

I left most of the gap on the front edge of the housing by tightening the back side a little more because I stare at that part all the time. The bigger gap is pretty much hidden by the brake lever on the front side.

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/billdozer/3841302567/" title="throttle1 by Billdozer, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2519/3841302567_701de0759c.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="throttle1" /></a>
(rear view)

It's not that big of a deal, and they work awesome, we just didn't think we could put the "Biltwell" name on it if it had that gap. I'm sure it's fine for most people (me included) but when you are trying to get $100 for a premium part, it's gotta be a little better.

dig it - i got ya now - appreciate the pics and explanation! notice yer running grips over it - i was likin it cuz its knurled and hopin not to run a rubber grip - realize its skinnier than a todd cycle vice grip though right?

That's a question I have also, do you need to run them with grips?

billdozer
08-21-2009, 1:10 AM
I never really considered running the throttle without grips but don't see why you couldn't.

See the pics on Tyler's site, they are knurled: http://lowbrowcustoms.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=511 But, the black housing has a raw aluminum throttle tube, so that would be kinda shiny.

I'm not being a smart ass, but why not run grips? I'm not sure about the size difference between ours and Todd's. (Don't have one of theirs) Also not sure about things like billet grips fitting over it. We all run rubber grips, usually BMX grips, until Baxter came out with his that is.

ditto
08-21-2009, 2:16 AM
really im a bmx fukker from the past too and dig those Baxter grips - but rubber grip seem to get really gnarly on me (stocks, pm/renthals, etc) - they like melt after a while. guess im a sweaty fucking bastard among other things and id really like to have a knurled metal set (til now been thinking of todds vice pieces but been broke as a fuksuit) that stay as theyre supposed to
n then yers turn up........

The gap on those throttles is really small, as Bill said it wouldn't matter to many, including me as well. I looked at every other throttle on every bike here and the gap is worse, and the shitty throttles have plastic guts to boot. We got em up for $50, you can't beat it, a quality part at generic prices.

Trackers, Low Drags and Window bars are all in stock as of today and ready to ship. You can find them here (http://lowbrowcustoms.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=77) and they will be on the ChopCult cash store shortly!

Hey Bill, these are pretty cool & exactly what I need with the cable adapters. I'm always having issues with my assembly sliding towards the end of the bar. No matter how much I tighten. The "gap" might be the solution for me!

Thanks for the detailed info. I'm ordering one right now.

Ha! Yeah, I've had a throttle almost come all the way off the bar just pushing the bike around before. These clamp nicely, and the cable adapters are bitchin. I don't think anyone else does that either.

I'm sure the Todd's grips would work, but it may take some persuation with the throttle sleeve being knurled and all. I had a bitch of a time getting mine on the left side.

Just installed my "limited edition" throttle that I purchased from Lowbrow, which came VERY fast in the mail, and this thing is a beauty! Seems that all my sticking and sliding throttle issues have been solved! The gap is exactly what I needed and doesn't bother me a bit.

Hugs and kisses to Biltwell & Lowbrow!

From Biltwell? No chance in the world. Reason: there are a million super badass 7/8" minibike throttles out there. Search "Billet alloy minibike throttle" on eBay and prepare to be mystified by radness...

Funny I just clicked on the Pingel link when i read the post below. I don't think I have much more than 207 into my whole bike so far. I've been looking at the motion pro throttles. Found them at www.cyclegear.com There's a retail store next to the house. I'd like to find something a little smaller but I thought I was going to splurge and buy the biltwell throttle for my HD. Too bad I waited too long to pull the trigger.

Punkskalar if you find something cheap and decent let me know.

I would really like to know once it is all said and done how much a super small company like Biltwell profits off one of their Taiwanese handlebars..

and how the fuck do you decide to bring your machine work to Taiwan instead of say... China? India? How did you find the original connect? Do you bring a translator for negotiation?
And how many bars are in an order? I guess this is all business stuff... I'm pretty curious

(fuckin just realized this thread was from march.. oops)

Crass, it's easy. We don't know anyone in India or China. We had deep roots in the bicycle industry for all kinds of cnc, welding, bending, etc and a good friend/partner/trading agent to help (all in Taiwan). We could never have attempted it without her help and knowledge. When we started in 2005, there were a lot of $250 handlebars and grossly overdone skull and jester billet parts out there and we thought that was stupid, especially when we had access to great manufacturing at way more reasonable costs.

You can play around on Alibaba.com or fly over to a trade show in Taipei and make connections, but it's expensive and risky if you don't already have some kind of relationship already. The minimums are high, depending on what the manufacturing process is, but they are lower now than they've ever been. The profits are massive as can be witnessed by our company airplane pictured below.

I want to thank Biltwell for great customer service. At winter I sent an e-mail to them when I had some complaint about one of their part. It wasn't major. Usually companies don't even bother to answer to them, but they sent me T-shirts and stickers and I was more than happy with the compensation.

I got their another parcel today that I ordered last week. There were also free stickers. Now I am wondering where to mount them :) Maybe to oil tank...

I just got my low drags from lowbrow about a month ago. The build quality is over the top good. I was even impressed with the sock they came in.

btw- it seems like kyle and tyler have a bunch of cool new stuff too. I love those guys.
