So far i have spent my time in the Sportster Forum on a build thread and while this has progressed I started looking for some ideads for a new project. You know the one just look won't buy anything just yet need to finish........ sound familiar ?
Anyway you already know what happened but here's the back story.... been looking a old BMW's for a while and looked at the growing scene in Europe for Cafe Racers and the like at the same time going to my local Drag Racing meets and thinking i would like to see if i could combine the 2.
Plenty of time doing homework and picked out a old plunger frame as the bike of choice so a R50 / R69 type, looks like they were going to be hard to come by so hatch a plan to buy just a frame and buy parts as they come up, found a frame in USA but missed it as organising shipping turned into a nighmare. It was all looking a bit of a lost cause when chance phone call which coincided with a planned weekend break just came together - the starts must have been aligned just right.
The bike was a 1959 R69 - roller with reg but no engine / gearbox and 16 size wheels - did'nt tick all the boxes but enough so it came home with us.

So here's a picture of how it looked when we picked it up - san's rear wheel
64982

And after a few hours poking and proding this is how it sits or should that be lays today
64979

So that's about it so far, lots of bits to sell and things to buy just how we like it.

So this is part of my inspiration but hopfully my own twist will give it a different slant, if you look at some of the vids from the cafe race meet on Germany this year this also helped to cement the plan.
Should be posting up some more progress from this weekend ........

Thanks for looking

Hi 555

Yes its never easy messing with a classic bike to know how it will be recived, I also post on an Airhead site and they sort of said do what you want better to be being used than left in a shed.

So its being built for speed in my ownership so i better get a move on....

Thanks for looking

So no point having a drag bike without a nice engine and Richard Moore was the bulder of choice in the UK. This is a full build with soem of his bespoke parts...

Getting the engine in the frame was not easy so came up with this idea which worked a treat

And with gearbox loosly in place
http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr352/hilbilchillbil/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/RM18.jpeg (http://s499.photobucket.com/user/hilbilchillbil/media/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/RM18.jpeg.html)

Next up its modify the swingarm

Dexter
02-21-2016, 11:10 AM
So that swingarm, to have the later option wheels and more importantly gear ratios in the bevel box we needed a series 5 swingarm, this also has the added advantage of a longer wheel base so double result.
Having bought a series 5 swing arm complete with drive shaft ( this is is also longer ) the fun could begin, now clearly things have advanced since 1959 and one is the swing arm pivot width which has grown by around 25mm. We needed to hatch a plan and this formed in getting the grinder out...

Before
http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr352/hilbilchillbil/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/SA1.jpeg (http://s499.photobucket.com/user/hilbilchillbil/media/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/SA1.jpeg.html)

So it looked something like this we even chopped out the gussets as this would not hinder welding it all back together again.
http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr352/hilbilchillbil/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/SA2.jpeg (http://s499.photobucket.com/user/hilbilchillbil/media/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/SA2.jpeg.html)

To make sure it was all going to line up we also needed to move the swingarm over to the drive shaft side as part of this addaption to get the DS to run through the swingarm tube without rubbing this would mean we had to cut off 10mm from this side and lose the tapered bearing from this side - I will come on this later.

Bit of trial fitting
http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr352/hilbilchillbil/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/SA3.jpeg (http://s499.photobucket.com/user/hilbilchillbil/media/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/SA3.jpeg.html)

With all these mods we couldn't lose sight of the rear to front wheel alignment so some more trail fitting with the hub in place string line ETC - with the drag slick in place we would have very little room for manoeuvre.
http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr352/hilbilchillbil/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/SA6.jpeg (http://s499.photobucket.com/user/hilbilchillbil/media/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/SA6.jpeg.html)

Back to the main plot and having cut everthing off including the middle section we turned up a thick wall tube and pushed this in one side tacked it in place then pushed the other side on then took some more measurements including trying the wheel spindle which slide into place - all good.
http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr352/hilbilchillbil/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/SA13.jpg (http://s499.photobucket.com/user/hilbilchillbil/media/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/SA13.jpg.html)

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr352/hilbilchillbil/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/SA8.jpg (http://s499.photobucket.com/user/hilbilchillbil/media/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/SA8.jpg.html)

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr352/hilbilchillbil/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/SA11.jpg (http://s499.photobucket.com/user/hilbilchillbil/media/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/SA11.jpg.html)

Once we were happy it was seam welded, now we needed to come back to the removal of that tapered pivot bearing, the BMW works by having a threaded hole each side in the frame for the pivot pins to screw into, these are then tightened to a cup which then pushes on the taper and removes any play. We had been able to keep one of the bearings and as this bike will have solid struts to replace the rear shocks this swingarm no longer needs to pivot or allow rotational movement so its more like a locator so our solution was a bush type replacement.

Our cunning plan was a solid steel insert with the piviot pin hole bored through, this was pressed into what was left after we had cut down the drive shaft end..

BMW pivot pin and our solid bush

Swingarm all ready for some pressing...

And welded in place

Thought it would be a good idea to make up a seat location, wanted something which would keep clear of the tyre and offer some good support for those quick starts

used some thin wall tube and bent this to shape round the trusty welding bottle which looked to be the correct radius also welded on some tags for mount the ali sheet which would form the seat base.

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr352/hilbilchillbil/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Seat%201.jpg (http://s499.photobucket.com/user/hilbilchillbil/media/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Seat%201.jpg.html)

Then added some support bars

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr352/hilbilchillbil/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Seat%203.jpg (http://s499.photobucket.com/user/hilbilchillbil/media/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Seat%203.jpg.html)

Offered it up and tacked it in place for a trial sit.

Then finished off with a seam weld.

Thanks guys, been draging my feet on this trying to get a Harley build completed but rest assured more build updates are on the way.

Spokes have just turned up for the front wheel so going to give it a go to build this up and see how we get on, pics to follow.

After a mix up with the spokes (19 plays 18 front wheel ) my fault entirely those good guys at Moto-Bins delivered the replacement front spokes. Now I had read several people saying have a go yourself at building the wheel and so far very therapeutic it was, something very satisfying in putting new / refurbed parts back together.
Not finished yet but an experimental spin up and looks to be running true and concentric - lets see how good it is after a proper spoke tightening session...

Anyway photos....

Only made the 1 side - going to sit with it and see what i think next time the tank gets some attention.

Todays project was to make the bevel box strut mount, could go on but lets let the pics do the talking.

Any reason for using the R69 frame as opposed to a /5 or /6? Just curious.

Hi IndianaSlim

Its about the lines of the plunger frame just looks right - already has a drop seat look as standard in my eyes, bit of history and not a typical bike for drag racing also helped.

Part 2 of the swingarm mounts, cut up some more plate and added a gusset and walked the welds fully underneath and round over the top as well.

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr352/hilbilchillbil/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Shock26.jpg (http://s499.photobucket.com/user/hilbilchillbil/media/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Shock26.jpg.html)

Had enough of groveling about on the floor so to aid the setup of the swingarm etc the bike now sits on a new B & Q bench thing that father Christmas left.....

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr352/hilbilchillbil/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Shock25.jpg (http://s499.photobucket.com/user/hilbilchillbil/media/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Shock25.jpg.html)

Next up was sorting the rim to hub offset break out the string line and straight edge....

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr352/hilbilchillbil/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Shock23.jpg (http://s499.photobucket.com/user/hilbilchillbil/media/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Shock23.jpg.html)

Ended up with a 10mm rim offset to get the tyre in the center of the swingarm, this should still have clearance to the plunger tube but this is sort of dependant in how much the rear tyre grows when inflated, the bits of BMW gussets will now need to all be removed from the inside of the swingarm but thats a mega grinding job so need to work up some enthusiasm.....

Last part was the sorting out the swingarm side strut mount, we wanted to reuse the BMW bracket so some careful cutting with a thin disc then a reposition - the the new location around 15/20mm further back and weld into position.

Making a long weekend over the BH so hope to get the rear hub and rim off the the wheel builder .... could be on 2 wheels soon.....

So bit of an update while we wait for the rear wheel, started to look at mounting the mangement box and then the coil pack.
Wanted to fing a place to hide its location as this should be a fit and forget so easy access was not the first priority. Ended up finding a space so its hidden inside the tank used some thin mild steel plate and made some folds to give it some more strenght have a look at the photos this may help..
Oh and yes that is 9000 on the box guess the engine will sound good at those
http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr352/hilbilchillbil/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Picture%20003.jpg (http://s499.photobucket.com/user/hilbilchillbil/media/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Picture%20003.jpg.html)

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr352/hilbilchillbil/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Picture%20001.jpg (http://s499.photobucket.com/user/hilbilchillbil/media/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Picture%20001.jpg.html)

Ok so next up was the coil bracket

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr352/hilbilchillbil/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Picture%20010.jpg (http://s499.photobucket.com/user/hilbilchillbil/media/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Picture%20010.jpg.html)

Then it was on to some rubber action but first set up the forks and using a cable tie as a marker finished off the final true up of the front wheel and tightening of the spokes.

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr352/hilbilchillbil/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Picture%20009.jpg (http://s499.photobucket.com/user/hilbilchillbil/media/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Picture%20009.jpg.html)

Ok so about that rubber... fitted the new rim tape then lubed up the tyre and managed to get this over the first part of the rim, threaded in the new tube then the difficult bit or it was for me... again bit more lube got the valve through then with some home made levers the tyre slipped into place well not really slipped but you get the idea. Popped up to the local garage and pumped it up, tyre came up nice on the bead - jobs a good un.

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr352/hilbilchillbil/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Picture%20008.jpg (http://s499.photobucket.com/user/hilbilchillbil/media/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Picture%20008.jpg.html)

Final job was to drill off some air holes in the front drum casting...

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr352/hilbilchillbil/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Picture%20005.jpg (http://s499.photobucket.com/user/hilbilchillbil/media/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Picture%20005.jpg.html)

Next up need to make up a drum steady and the drum casing has a sleeve pressed in for spindle location but it's 14mm and I am running a 17mm spindle so be on teh phone to moto-bins Monday see if they can help

Next up was the battery mount, based on the origonal location but just added a keeper plate plan to add a front keeper as well found a nice srap with a turn buckle which should suffice. The lithium battery is just for trial as the ingnition system is total loss and from what i have heard they are good at most things but not suitable for my application.

On the front spindle Moto-Bins could not help on this occasion - part no longer avalible so it looks like our trusty machine shop is back in business, not sure if we will make a new bush from scratch or machine out the current one to size.......leave that for another installment.

Hi Indianaslim

Not really thought on these lines but like the picture is this something you have any experience of ? I guess its depend how much power is being put down.....

Getting into a stride now... ok a brisk walk

Finished off the battery holder used the ali solder again really like this stuff.
http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr352/hilbilchillbil/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Picture%20010_1.jpg (http://s499.photobucket.com/user/hilbilchillbil/media/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Picture%20010_1.jpg.html)

Then after the cock up on the valve hole couldnt wait for the replacement tube to turn up ( so impatiant) so stuck the tyre on the wheel just to take a look - the drag tyre with soft sidewalls was so much easier then the front to get on. So as this was only a tempoary fit its not 100% conclusive however the clearances to the swing arm look good and there is ample room to restore a gusset arrangment to the spindle area.

Next up we had bought a universal set of rearsets quality was good and they have the ability to move the actuation point about which look as if it might be handy, the plan was to use the origonal rear peg locations to bolt these up but its never that simple. The fixing bolt which fiited within the peg was not even close to being a good fit so we made up a spacer

New tube has arrived so this was fitted this morning and then we were on 2 wheels, tyre to swing arm tube now we have some air in there is a bit close for comfort so looks like the grinder is coming back out for some action.

The forks have been fitted but without the new bearings so very much jury rigged for this trial, forks went through various iterations as we experimented with ride height. At this stage all we wanted to acheive was the desired ride height so the faring could be mocked up and then look at making mounting brackets so dont take too much notice of the forks at this stage as the day progressed we have come up with what we hope will be the final solution just need to sort out the springs.

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr352/hilbilchillbil/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Dusty9.jpg (http://s499.photobucket.com/user/hilbilchillbil/media/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Dusty9.jpg.html)

So that fairing.... we started by pulling it passed the barrels and then spent ages getting the right stance bits of wood and boxes....ready to mark up the section which would be cut round the barrels we would keep these as small as possible at this stage and look to do teh final fitting when all the mounts are in place

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr352/hilbilchillbil/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Dusty17.jpg (http://s499.photobucket.com/user/hilbilchillbil/media/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Dusty17.jpg.html)

Also remember that rear tire will "grow" when it gets hot. Look at a video of a drag car and you can size the tire increase in diameter.

Under power the rear of a BMW "jacks up", which may give that rear tire more clearance.

Dexter, my experience is all '73-'77 BMWs. In the search for better handling the things I've done were:
billet top clamp and fork brace to firm up the forks
frame braces to reduce flex
swingarm brace to reduce twist.

In your case maybe the swingarm brace is the one that may have the most value.
Thank you for posting all of this, I'm digging it!

Thanks for your thoughts, the swingarm brace may well be an option as this has to have gussets and final welding done so may be an ideal time, will see what tube i can line up for bracing duties and se how we go

Hope to have the tyre growing covered with additional clearance being on the list when the swingarm comes out next - looks like that swingarm is really going to have a number put on it...............

Thanks for the input

Hi Buknekk4d

Not really sure its going to be linked to the gearing which is a guess at the moment and then sourcing a bevel box which is closest time will tell

Got a load more work done over the weekend

More fairing stuff, so not the best photo but these are the 2 tubes to secure the top of the rear fairing section better photos to follow - fixing bolts will be bespoke, the design has been drawn up just got to make them..... The concept is to design fixings so they can stay in place on the fairing when its removed and use R clips to locate these fixings to the mounts on the bike ( i know what i mean but hopefully some further photos will help)

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr352/hilbilchillbil/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Dusty28.jpg (http://s499.photobucket.com/user/hilbilchillbil/media/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Dusty28.jpg.html)

Next up was making the mounting for the lower section of the fairing, the mounting point ends up about 150mm back from the wheel center line and will suport the main weight of the fairing. These are constructed from thin wall 18mm box tube with tubes welded into the place and using the motor bolts as the fixing points so good and strong - althought the fairing is pretty light.

And then welded up

Thanks for the kind words and here is today's progress.

More faring action.......

First up were the lower mounts using 2mm alloy folded to shape round the trusty argo bottle.

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr352/hilbilchillbil/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Dusty38.jpg (http://s499.photobucket.com/user/hilbilchillbil/media/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Dusty38.jpg.html)

Once the holes had been drilled with a piolt drill these were opend up to take the m6 threaded inserts.

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr352/hilbilchillbil/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Dusty33.jpg (http://s499.photobucket.com/user/hilbilchillbil/media/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Dusty33.jpg.html)

For final assembly the screws can be cut down to lenght and we will use a thin rubber gasket type material between the brakets an the fiberglass

Next up the stays that support the top of the rear section needed some mounting bobbins.

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr352/hilbilchillbil/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Dusty32.jpg (http://s499.photobucket.com/user/hilbilchillbil/media/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Dusty32.jpg.html)

These were joined together with the ali solder...these will get a final finish to blend radius.

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr352/hilbilchillbil/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Dusty35.jpg (http://s499.photobucket.com/user/hilbilchillbil/media/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/Dusty35.jpg.html)

Got some time and progressed the front fairing stay into the instrument holder....

So we started off like this

And then this happened

And finally riders eye view with the idea that both should have the needles pointing to the top when in anger.

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr352/hilbilchillbil/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/SP5.jpg (http://s499.photobucket.com/user/hilbilchillbil/media/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/SP5.jpg.html)

Man you have a turbo fixation  but seriously thanks for the feedback........maybe one day if I really get the bug bad.

Take your mind off turbo's and have a look at this weeks work

Made up the rear brake bar, it will use a rose joint at the lever end, should have some pics making up a fitted bolt.......

Silencer, we were going to make one but having been down this road before and seen how much work goes into making it from scratch this came a long at a very good price it even fits with the measurments RM has specified, some bends have been bought this week to add to some pipework left over from a previous project so its exhaust weekend coming up.....

Next week we take a pile of stainless pipework and try to turn it into some headers...

Santa Pod is on the list but my local venue will be WestenZoyland, but the main idea was to take it to Europe as there is a big BMW drag scene out there, using closed off public roads......

If you get anywhere near the South Coast and want to pop in for a cupper and a chat more than welcome.

So about that Exhaust weekend.............

Under strick instruction from RM on the specified lengths for the exhaust system - equipt with a magic marker, tape measure, hacksaw, file and some blind faith.....
Started off with this pile of 1 5/8 stainless steel pipe, some of which the J bends were left over from a previous
project

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr352/hilbilchillbil/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/EX2.jpg (http://s499.photobucket.com/user/hilbilchillbil/media/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/EX2.jpg.html)

Part of these instructions were for a prefered 2 into 1 system so we looked at how to make 1 side the correct lenght and then how to "loose" the extra lenght on the other side and still end up at the merge pipe location...... So here's how the first side turned out

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr352/hilbilchillbil/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/EX8.jpg (http://s499.photobucket.com/user/hilbilchillbil/media/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/EX8.jpg.html)

Then on to the more interesting side...part of the plan was also to keep the exhaust inside the fairing and try to turn the pipes from the head through the fairing to keep any cutouts nice and neat.

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr352/hilbilchillbil/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/EX7.jpg (http://s499.photobucket.com/user/hilbilchillbil/media/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/EX7.jpg.html)

Ran out of time to get any further than cutting both pipes to the same lenght. We need to add some support and the through engine bolts look
favorite. Next up will be a merge pipe then out in 2" to the silencer which also has a specific lenght, this looks to bring the silencer almost to the back of the rear wheel so we need to make out a suitable mout for this as well..... I can almost hear it running......honest

We got let down on the 2" pipe so progress stopped on the exhaust so we moved on to making the fairing fit now it had some pipes to clear, lots of cardboard to make templates measure 5 times and fiberglass dust later....

On to the next stage of the exhaust, so merge pipe was on its way to being finished the 2" pipe has been added and here we are welding on the first 45 degree 2" bend.

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr352/hilbilchillbil/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/EX32.jpg (http://s499.photobucket.com/user/hilbilchillbil/media/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/EX32.jpg.html)

Trying to measure twice and cut once we then welded the other 45 to the straight length of 2" pipe and looked to see what needed to be adjusted to bring the two 45's to meet- hope the pictures make more sense

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr352/hilbilchillbil/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/EX34.jpg (http://s499.photobucket.com/user/hilbilchillbil/media/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/EX34.jpg.html)

Next up with all this tacked together we needed a methed of stopping the pipe twisting and holding it at the correct angle, here we have a steel mount which has a slot arrangment facing to the rear of the bike so this section can be removed, to hold teh exhaust we used a 6mm SS allen bolt and weled this to the 2" pipe, you will see we have all sorts to between mount plate and bolt but in the final solution we will turn up an aluminium spacer.

Man, that thing has a lot of mechanical attitude. It'd almost be a crime to make it pretty..... if you do.
Starting it soon?

Hi IndianaSlim

Well the fairing and tank are now at the painters - not sure its going to be pretty but maybe of the time. The rest of the build is ongoing just putting new taper head bearing in for the front forks - all the bits are back from the plaiters so no excuses....

Starting will involve a rolling road as the carbs are brand new and the motor needs to be run in so hope to be this year....

Assembley moves forward - so something needed to mate a R60 frame to a series 5 swingarm is a drive shaft extender

With the dry build complete it was hopefully the final strip down finishingh off soem welding and the frame was sent out for satin black powdercoat

Next up the headstock bearings were the old ball race type like a push bike which had seen better days so we have gone all modern with a tapered races. Outer race fitted like it was made for the job.....

http://i499.photobucket.com/albums/rr352/hilbilchillbil/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/HB2.jpg (http://s499.photobucket.com/user/hilbilchillbil/media/BMW%20Airhead%20Drag%20Bike/HB2.jpg.html)

The swingarm was rubbed down and given a couple of coats of satin black from a trusty spary can, didn't think the bearing would like 200 degrees at the powder coaters and it was in good condition so........

Putting the engine in is a 2 man job now its all pretty, so awaiting my able assistant returning for his hols and hope to make some good progress next weekend.

As a side note finally joined facebook to see what's going on in the bike world posted a few pics on a site called "BMW 2V Boxer" and seems to have gone down well, looks like there is a drag race series called "The Sultans of Swing" and they are keen to have some new competitors so that's 2017 holidays taken care of......

So jobs to do
#fill with engine and gearbox oil y
#Add fork oil y
#fit tube and tyre + clamp + new brake shoes - well re used old ones as the new ones were not the right type y
#Fit rear brake rod + gear change rod - gear change needed to be modified and still needs a further tweak to get some adjustment y
#stand back and take a bunk of photos y
#rig up a temporary fuel tank and book the rolling road with RM - not yet

So here it is was a nice day so pushed it outside and took a few photos.....

Bit of an update of sorts as like all good projects there never finished....

Put in all the fluids and checked levels - not sure if the engine oil has gold in it but when its done in the bike may have to see if they give you a credit on return..

The wiring loom had been all laced up but remained untested and RM was keen for me to turn the engine over before any rolling road sessions which sounded and proved to be good advice.

So we jury rigged a battery up (the final one was still to be purchased at this time) by this stage we had also plumbed the oil pressure gauge, bike turned over on the starter button and after loosining the pressure line to bleed it we also had a healthy 80 psi cranking pressure. At this point the managment box was looking remarkably un interested and true to form we should have been seeing an led light flash as the crank sensor passed the trigger

Traced out the wiring and if you can believe this the kill switch which was on a lanyard so if you fall off it kill the engine... well this bugger only made a curcuit with the lanyard disconnected - needless to say this now in the bin so a couple of quick wiring alterations and bingo flashing led :0.

Been speaking to RM and now have 25L of Sonoco race fuel at almost £5 L good job its only 1/4 mile a time... still hoping to get the the RR this side of Christmas and should also have the painted tank and fairing back soon cant.....
