This was my first attempt at painting anything... I did it in my front yard, in the wind, some of it by flashlight... while walking up hill to school, both ways, in the snow. All Duplicolor. Far from perf, but it was fun.

Hey, man... good to see you're reppin' for Dean! Blotto rules - rad guy.
I'm stoked it protected my head, too. I don't usually wear one, but was riding out to Hood and didn't have anywhere to carry it til I hit Oregon. So I carried it on my head, which worked out well for me.
As for the background, nothin' special. Long lens and a big aperture (smaller number) will blow it out of focus for ya'.

this is my first attempt at painting one. and i also had my first attempt at striping as well.
start using glitter over the base with clear

then i taped off some panels
http://i594.photobucket.com/albums/tt24/brad7042/motorcyclehelmetsanantonio075.jpg
after i taped the panels i laid some lace on top .. this lace is from wal mart.
http://i594.photobucket.com/albums/tt24/brad7042/motorcyclehelmetsanantonio079.jpg
after the lace i sprayed the yellow.. after i did this i was made aware that i should have used some transparent paint.. like from duplicolor.. but i was unaware .. and then i faded some brown onto the panels.
http://i594.photobucket.com/albums/tt24/brad7042/motorcyclehelmetsanantonio084.jpg
[
i peeled the tape from the helmet and then i taped over the panels and painted another color blue for the backgroound.. shoulda been transparent.. but i dig the colors.. my pinstriping is a purple.. looks cool in my opinion. gets some attention. ha.

Worn a little thin on the earpieces, and the diamond shaped top pad has came loose about an inch or so on one point, other than that it's in incredible shape for it's age! Cool thing is, or atleast I think so anyway, it's been in my family it's whole life, my dad got it with one of his fist bikes back around 74 or so and has had it ever since. We actually even used it to ride 4-wheelers and shit in it when I was growing up!

I have a brand new bubble I use on my helmets. Fulmer is making bubbles again for the V2 but it will fit any 3 snap helmet. They come in clear, smoke, bronze, and chrome. When I get a new camera I will take some pics.

puhleeze, excuse the model

in NYC growing up in my 'hood back in the day, most every respectable rider, as a right of passage went to the Tack shop at Belmont Race Track and got himself a real Jockey Helmet. I just recently rebuilt mine after years of hard use.It literally fell apart, every part rotted.

The Tack shop is long gone, i believe - and these helmets are no longer available from Champion, the UK manufacturer.....

My other helmet is a Arai Quantum2, not nearly as interesting, but killer in its own right.

The Fulmer is to small for me.It is an xl i take a xxl.I bought it because it is a sales reps present from the factory to dealers.1 of 300 in that color and the boss was gone so the dealerships salesman sold it.It just took me back in time.I was going to trade it for a nice paint job but when my son seen it he wanted me to keep it so i guess i will and pass it along later.

i know most of you glitter helmet freaks out there probably wear a biltwell helmet. my wife and i each own one.but i also picked up one of loser machines helmets (metal flake green).just wanna say they are a great product. they run in sizes rather than one size fits all.the metal flake is outstanding.the lining is custom with a few other cool touches. now they are a little more but i think the quaility is worth the few extra dollars.just another option for everyone too check out.they also have a pretty sweet apparel line if you don't already know who they are.check um out at losermachine.com

Like shit I assume. That's why there novelty after all. i think at best it will protect you from road rash, but probably not against any sort of direct impact. Just remember though that even a DOT helmet will only protect you in collisions up to 35 mph. Anything over that and it doesn't matter what's on your head.

Finally an area I have expertise........

Biltwell Gold Flake... function tested at 55 mph on asphalt. I was setting down a wheelie, and a lady shot out of an alley in to my path/lane/life. Not sure if I clipped her bumper, or landed too hard... but fender stay broke and wrapped front chrome fender down around wheel. Effectively simulating evasive motorcycling techniques... on ice. Im not sure how, but front wheel slid out from under me. I went over the bars. The only piece of protective anything I was wearing at the time, besides an extra layer of denim from my cut. No gloves, chucks, and jeans. Head first was the only way to do it... good hard impact , saw stars, but I never lost faculties and was able to limp away with no obvious brain damage, some rash, and only a broken bone or two in my foot and ankle. No fault of the Biltwell boys, they dont sell shoes. Thanks to an old crusty biker on the corner, I was able to get the bike kicked over, and haul ass before the local authorities could come arrest yours truely for a whole list of shit I didnt have time to explain. It wasnt much for drama, but triumph parts scattered for a whole block, drag marks down the street from the stock pegs, and flake streaks melded into the asphalt where I was sliding make me grateful for the "non-" quality of their product. I have another Biltwell lid I use for a daily. I have hit people with it, broken a car window with it, use it to prop my bike, let the kids thrash it... When its time for another everyday helmet, Ill get another Biltwell.

I posted this experience on the "other" motorcycle forum the next day... and I believe Bill contacted me to offer his best wishes, and a new lid courtesy of Biltwell. Those fucking guys are class.

My conclusion: under real world crash conditions at almost 2x the accepted velocity standard for DOT approved headgear testing. The helmet performed 100% better than expectations as per the warning label inside the lid.

I'm not sure I completely agree with that. Ever watched any mototrcycle racing? Most of those crashes are well over 35 mph and suprisingly not many deaths or head injuries. It all depends on the quality of helmet. If you've got a $35 head - wear a $35 helmet. My head is worth the $$

all motorcycle racing helmets are SNELL approved which is an independent testing facility that actually tests helmets

DOT is a standard that the US government has set to guide helmet manufactures which is not regulated it is based on the "honor system" but hey you dont need to believe. here is a comperison on the two

Taken from Neil Peart's site http://www.neilpeart.net/news/july_08.html
No surprise, but another reason I am not a organ donor, at least not a deceased one.

Recently I happened to see a story in the New York Times (July 13, 2008) titled “The Pros of Motorcycle Helmets,” in which reporter Jerry Garrett wrote that victims of motorcycle crashes were indeed favored by the medical community as organ donors. He recounted how a motorcyclists’ rights organization had contacted a hospital to enlist their support for a “freedom of choice” coalition—specifically, to support the right of motorcyclists not to wear helmets. The hospital directors were concerned about the ethics (or at least, ramifications) of such an endorsement because, as one doctor stated, “Motorcycle fatalities are not only our number one source of organs, they are the highest quality source of organs, because donors are usually young, healthy people with no other traumatic injuries to the body, except to the head.” The hospital’s “ethical” issue was actually about (surprise) money—the loss of income the hospital would suffer as a result of a reduction in available organs for transplants if motorcyclists wore helmets. They decided to stay out of it.

www.biltwell.com

It claims to do nothing but retard you before you die.

I had a vivid mental image of that label all the way down too...... like I read it out loud in my mind... and then still had time to think, "well, fuck me.... this ought to be interesting." I gotta lower that bike... it was too far to the ground.

I have a DOT helmet for my wife, who rarely rides. I keep a puddin bowl hanging off the bike just in case somebody needs a ride. I buy my kids the best helmets I can afford. $300 for my oldest sons full face.

I have faith in my Biltwell bucket. Glad I had it on, otherwise I might have been lying in bed drooling peacefully while the wife cybersexed some stud who didnt shit in a bag. Instead of typing this. The brain is delicate, and I new a guy who retarded himself falling off the trunk of a car onto the street. Parked car. Hit his head... 4 yrs old forever. Shits himself occasionally too.
I'd put some consideration into a helmet. I take chances in a lot of areas of my life, it works for me.

DONOT WEAR THIS HELMET TO OPERATE MOTORIZED OR
NON-MOTORIZED STREET LEGAL OR OFF-ROAD VEHICLES

DOING SO COULD RESULT IN INJURY OR DEATH

www.biltwell.com

It claims to do nothing but retard you before you die.

I had a vivid mental image of that label all the way down too...... like I read it out loud in my mind... and then still had time to think, "well, fuck me.... this ought to be interesting." I gotta lower that bike... it was too far to the ground.

Hahaha Funny how much shit runs through your mind in few miliseconds with shit like that.

My best friend and I went for an afternoon ride this summer and we were out in the middle of nowhere and we were flyingdown this rural road that has a strange intersection and as we were going through it this lady barreled through the spot where she was supposed to yield but didn't and I just went "oh shit" and hammered down Still amazes me how she didn't clip me.

But that day Bought an old lid at a second hand store for like three bucks and the foam was just dust that shot out whenever i put it on but just as That Broad was coming head on I had an entire inter dialogue about how I wished I had my nice modular full face on haha.

all motorcycle racing helmets are SNELL approved which is an independent testing facility that actually tests helmets

DOT is a standard that the US government has set to guide helmet manufactures which is not regulated it is based on the "honor system" but hey you dont need to believe. here is a comperison on the two

I get the "WTF - I wouldn't pay that much for a helmet!!" all the time. Then again I have an Arai Corsair RX-7, a Suomy Spec1R, a Suomy Spec1R Extreme, an my old KBC VR-1 that the back side is ground off from sliding down the highway.
After my brother hit a deer with his dresser & was wearing a novelty helmet, I went out & bought a Kevlar lid. At the speeds we ride I don't know if it will save me but makes me feel safer in regards to brain injury. R

For you guys in AZ, we have a few of the Loser Machine lids in stock at Go Kat Go! 5102 N 7th st, PHX, AZ. And from what I have been told, they are workin on gettin the new batch DOT certified. But don't hold me to that...

any crash.... if gnarly enough, can fuck you up bad no matter what you got on the melon..... but, i knew a guy (may he rest in peace), that got killed not too long.... head on with a petrbilt.... the trucker was sleepin and my buddy couldnt get out of the way of the veering rig. he was killed instantly, and that would have happened no matter what was on his head yes. but he was rockin the novelty helmet. and becase his lid was not DOT approved, the life insurance that he had been payin on for years, did not pay off for him or the wife and little ones. its always your choice... i prefer no helmet when i can, but after his crash i stick to a DOT lid.

i love my full face! laid my bike down last year & slid under the rear end of a car, my chin area of the helmet hit the tire & i was sent cartwheeling 45 ft down the road on my back. so if i didn't have that full face then my face would be GONE. it's worth the money. down sides, babes can't see your cheeks flapping in the wind, can't smoke, & beards suck in full face. now because of those reasons i constantly want a 3/4 lid. just can't do it, i ride fast on the freeway & split lanes fast.

I work for a large fire department in southern california and have picked up many people after crashes. I wore a novelty helmet up until a few months back. I have 1 kid and another on the way and I feel that I owe it to my family to wear a helmet. Saving up now for a Shark RSX or RSR2. I've seen novelty helmets like the one I wore when I went down at 70 and I walked away. I've also seen guys wearing a $49 DOT approved helmet that disintegrated in an accident of less than 40 mph. The rivets that held chinstrap tore out and he became helmetless and died.

Interesting article. I had never heard that.

Here is a good one too. The Hurt Report: http://www.clarity.net/~adam/hurt-report.html

Good news for me:
"Motorcycle riders with dirt bike experience are significantly underrepresented in the accident data."

We're all screwed:
"36. Motorcycle modifications such as those associated with the semi-chopper or cafe racer are definitely overrepresented in accidents."

Damn thats a huge noggin. You can always get a large or xl and have someone redue the inside. I took a size small that didnt fit with the stock liner in and put 1" foam all the way around and 1/2" foam on the top so my head sunk in better. That might work for you.

Ha! That's fuckin awesome! The goggles fit great. I can imagine the old couple in the car:

"Some dipshit crazy-ass biker gonna pass us on the right, Martha."

VROOM!!!

"Gosh, that thing was loud, Jonathan. And was that a colander on his head?!?"

I have that Fulmer V2 CPT America 3/4, you've probably already seen it. I'm still a newb so I can't risk a Non-DOT helmet since I still ride with an expired permit, whoops.

Am I the only one who isn't a huge fan of the bubble visors?
