Can I use engine cases that do not have matching case numbers as long as long as they are both built for the same style of engine?

Yep-but you are in for some big machining bills...

It's what I do my friend. I'm a fabricator by trade and build rigid frames on the side for extra $. Exactly what would I need to machine?

that exactly depends on what cases you are trying to mate up.

You may not have to machine if the case deck height matches close enough. Is there a reason you didn't post the SPECIFIC years of the cases concerned?

You can temp assemble the engine with crankshaft in place to check.

With machining and fab capability you can make any holding fixture you'd want.

Mate, deck, line bore, and shim m.m and your done. unless you want to deck m,m surfaces. 400 bucks is big $ to some not to me for a bike. As far as belly numbers go. That a vin subject to me.

true, it isn't a lot. My 51 pan has cases from two different 51's. Didn't want to sound negative.

When a guy gets new cases from the MOCO then he has to send in the numbered side of the case or no deal. So there are pinion side evo cases out there and sprocket side shovel cases out there. I have mated them up without too much trouble to have an unstamped set. Plenty of other mismatched situations have occurred, it is very "Doable"

I don't have a set of cases to put together yet but it seems that the cheapest way to go is with non-matching cases. I have a whole machine shop at my disposal luckily and figured it would be the less costly route to take.
