View Full Version : HOW TO: Rewind a primary ignition coil

Hey all. Been away from here for sometime. Family, kids, and work have kept me occupied, but I picked up a sweet new ride a few weeks ago. It's a little Kawasaki MT1 mini bike. It's for the kids...:cough: Yeah, for the kids. :D

Anyway. The thing has been sitting in a shed for years. Going through and checking things out and found that it had no spark. Figured out that the source coil behind the flywheel was internally shorted due to some damage. You can find replacements online for anywhere between $60-$120, but if you're like me, you don't want to spend any more money than necessary. Being "thrifty" I decided to try to fix it myself - and since this coil was basically junk, if it didn't work, I'd just be out my time.

I made a video to demonstrate how I threw some scrap wood together to help rewind this stator. It sure beat winding it by hand.

Great post, I like anything that de-mystifies electrics.
