View Full Version : xs650 foot controls - not forwards

Im slowly working away on an xs650, but since I've been layed off I have no new money coming into this project, so its the time that I start planning every detail of this bike. This is my second bike (first was an sr250) that I've been working on, and first that I've hardtailed.

My question / request is some ideas on how people how mounted foot pegs on their bikes that arent forward controls (I guess they'd be called mids?) I like the look of the stock triumph foot pegs, but have no idea how to mount them anywhere other than the lower framerails, and that just gets in the way of the exhaust ideas.

anyone have pictures of how they've seen it done?

thanks

ps. attached is the bike im working on

I'm also keen to see some pics of how it's been done, I'm about to try work mine out and need some inspiration.

This one just uses the stock peg brackets that have been relocated

same with this one

not sure if there's a better way but that site has a lot of good builds

not the best pics but i went with the mount off the lower rail style...i fishmouthed the end and welded it at an angle that allowed my exhaust to pass under it....flattened one end and drilled a hole for the pegs....seem to be holding up....little tricky on the brake side due to the arm, but does the trick....like to keep em high so they don't grab ground during "evasive maneuvers"

i just cut up a set of old foot brackets. since i added some meat at the open bolt hole to keep the pegs from spinning. i have more updated pics on my pooter at home. i will upload them when i get a chance.

cool, i really like that bike. Im thinking something similar, since Im running my exhaust along the frame rails.

does no-one use top motor mounts on these?

Thanks for those Pics captainawesome, I reckon I'll just run with the same setup. I got my bike in boxes so I hadn't looked too hard at the stock mounts. Mind you with my exhaust plans they might get in the way.....

go to ardcorechoppers.com and look at the mids on bad penny. those are pretty simple from the looks of them but look to be of good quality

I LOVE the ardcore mids, but the way they run the exhaust on those bikes makes it look clean. I want to run my pipes in the stock location, so i was looking for cleaner ideas than my own to rock em

Im stealin that idea of using the old brackets but ill be using BMX pegs because I like the knurled look. IIl give you credit if someone asks as long as you dont mind be refered to as "some guy on the internets". Yes I say internets.

Just bought some 6mm flat the other day and I'll hopefully slap up a mount for the vintagey pegs I scored. Pics to come.

Are you still looking for a cheap mid control set-up?

I copied the Ardcore and G&L concept using some 3/8" plate - I'm really happy with how they turned out. The only problem I see is that when I go to kick her over, I need to make sure that I fold the peg up, otherwise my foot is going to get jammed against it. I'll try to take some pics tonight when I get home...
