A few days ago I picked up this '67 cb450, owned by the grandson of the guy who built it back in the seventies. Currently painted black original chop colour was Red metallic then a nice blue metallic (Which Im going to try and match if i can get a nice chip) Frame and tank where all the same colour.
The goodies that came with it
-Fiberglass sporty tank, unsure of origin
-Wassell? ribbed fender it looks to be
-King and queen seat
-Nice sissy bar to match
-Dual headlight and mounts
-Brass gaslines
-zbars and awesome risers
-6 over forks
-Frame was kong'd

I would like to keep it as to the original as possible because I like the look. Will be dropping the rear fender for a crazy frank-ish one. Wassell one will go to my other build.
Needs a wiring harness... Plan is to find a simplified one, I have cb350 electrical components from an old build of mine to throw on. Drop down the rear a bit more. Kong'd frame needs to be fixed up quite a bit. Excited to get into it!

Not much has happened to the lil 450. Ive started a good tear down. Found a welder to fix the frame issues (i have no welder capable and limited skill). Collected some parts.
Frame and tank have had all kinds of colours on it. One colour i havent mentioned, as i just found it. An awesome high flake purple. Not sure if it was the first on it, but im going with it.
Picture is of my many on going projects. The littl suzuki is going to be turned into a road legal vintage style drag bike. Always liked rhe look and i felt like doing something different.

Just a small update.
It unfortunately turns out that somebody has really screwed with the front forks so they are garbage now. My plan is to take the Betor forks i have laying around and jam them on. They are a little longer then stock length atleast. I think they looks nicer too.

<a href='http://i.imgur.com/D3olRtq' title=''><img src='http://i.imgur.com/D3olRtq.jpg' alt='' title='Hosted by imgur.com' /></a>

Issue being though that the harley Betor tree has a 1 inch stem and the stock honda one has a 1 inch tapered to a larger diameter for the bottom bearing race. Luckily i can press out the stock bearing race in the neck and press the harley bearing in there nice and flush.

<a href='http://i.imgur.com/wtjDjlD' title=''><img src='http://i.imgur.com/wtjDjlD.jpg' alt='' title='Hosted by imgur.com' /></a>

I did really like the fiberglass sporty tank on the bike, however i love how skinny this tank is!

I havent poked my head into the engine too much yet... Definately going to need a cover bolt kit forsure Typical with those phillips bolts. Anybody know of any kits out there? I can imagine cb350 and the 750 would be damn near the same.

Should be the same but I've been wrong before. Just started working on cbs but every time I've chanced something it's worked so far haha. You thinking of selling that original tank on it?

Well lifes been hectic. As usual. But a non picture update. Frames getting a rigid! Kongd frame was far to gone to bother fixing. Drove the frame down to Paul from Back Alley Moto. This guy is a super rad dude. I suggest checking his work out!

jaggermeisterje
06-20-2015, 8:53 PM
I do yeah, all they did was cut the seat rails bent them down and welded a big plate on the side of it. Not the correct way to do it. Im aurprised it held together in the past...

Whats next in the 'to-do' list?

I like those tanks too! Im thinking of reworking it a bit. Cover the front portion where it sat low on the bike it came off of and maybe frisco it. Not too the point of it sitting right ontop of the frame. I started cleaning up the engine today. The covers have new gaskets and clear on them so i think somebody has been in it recently. Ill pop them off and see if anythings new or going wrong. Clean the carbs would be next, then Ill have to hunt for some parts. Needs new fork tubes. I may use a set of Betor tubes i got off a harley sxt. They are about 2 over stock length.

Thanks pleasedie! I just picked up a set of 5 spoke mag wheels with good tires and the front fork setup. They came off of a 80 something suzuki gs. Rear is a drum front is disk. I was actually leaning towards the roth flake. He is why i got into the custom cars and bikes after all!

I promise guys there will be pictures soon.

Small update. I was about to junk the terrible king and queen seat until I decided to tear it apart. Uncovering the exact seat pan with still good foam i wanted! Somebody had added the backrest part which was sheet metal bolted to the old pan. Anybody know the origin? I see them on tons of bikes. Triumph chops mostly.

I cant thank Paul from Back Alley Moto enough for he hardtail. He took a Tc bros kit for a xs650 and made it work on the 450.

Picked up a few goodies from a local Anything with an engine show and swap. Two old trumpet baffles, with the perfect amount of patina, an awesome iron cross sissy bar and some more bubbles for my van.

<a href='http://i.imgur.com/1UcM10A' title=''><img src='http://i.imgur.com/1UcM10A.jpg' alt='' title='Hosted by imgur.com' /></a>

Here is where im at. Need to make a set of riserless z bars and find a suitable tank. The bars im going to weld in an old "s" wrench as the center support. I presume its 40s or 50s. Says Acme Auto on it.
Other things on the list.
-fab a dual headlight mount
-the bars
-the tank. Im hoping to find a mid tunnel. Not sure what shape yet... maybe a coffin tank. Anybody holding some unique ones?
- the exhaust i plan to run one header on the right side in the stock location and the other header same side but overtop engine cover. To a 45 on either then the trumpets.
-The 6 over front end is toast. Trying to find a 6+ girder. But would settle for another set like the currents.
-Going to make a seat from scratch. Other one wouldnt work so i used it on my 750 project. Same idea, or maybe go 2 piece king/ queen with seat spring for extra cushion.

May have found the perfect coffin tank for the bike. No picture yet until i get it but its old tattered chippin purple metal flake. Perfectly crusty.
I have no idea what this glass taillight deal is off of but im using it!

08-27-2015, 7:03 PM
Thanks Choppergypsy! Your cb500 is so rad!! Its a little slow now. Need a new 6 over front end, hoping for girder but my wallet will kill me. Need a tank too which is hard to come by up here so i may just order a throttle addiction. After that itll just be fully mount the parts and strip for paint and wiring.

Few more small things.

Made up a super simple yet very effective dual headlight mount. Light and no headlight bounce.
<a href='http://i.imgur.com/PWl0SON' title=''><img src='http://i.imgur.com/PWl0SON.jpg' alt='' title='Hosted by imgur.com' /></a>

Mounted with a bolt for now. Going to break out the welder when i have a big list ready. Also you can see I have made my z bars 3 inches skinnier. The bars had holes for wires to be put in however it was starting to crack around the relief hole. Small round bar steel fit into the old handle bars and holes drilled for extra strength after welding is done.

Buddy came by with the coffin tank after all. This thing is beefy. Way thicker then any tank ive seen done. Not sure of company but it was professionally done. Had a shield shaped sticker on it. Cant beat the price either! $20!!

Mocked up the tank going to have to throw a tunnel on it and drop it 2 or so inches, its just a little too high up. 6 over front was ruined by one of the previous owners so i had this suzuki front setup. Adjustable by air pressure. Race shit right there.

Did a few little things to the bike. I have been super busy lately without time to work on it.

Always enjoyed TheVNM's dump em out logo so i payed omage? However you spell it. Tried my hand at engraving some.

With putting that springer on it the sissy bar is going to be disperportionate to the rest of the size so i made up a better one. Skinnier and for a rigid. Previous was for swingarm harley mounts. Still have to add a few pieces to it.

Made up a seat pan yesterday. I rolled the edges for some extra strength. Was originally another crusty pan i chopped up into this shape. Rear portion of the seat will be a king and queen styled thing running up the sissybar.

<a href='http://i.imgur.com/2irsfqn' title=''><img src='http://i.imgur.com/2irsfqn.jpg' alt='' title='Hosted by imgur.com' /></a>

Finished up my exhaust today. Decided to run them low. I love the look of 2 45s on one side. However i kept the stock headers because of the big hoops up front sticking out which look awesome.

Mocking up some things. Changed my route a little ways. Coffin tank was rad as hell but just too wide. So I picked up this old steel dirtybike tank, along with a new comfier for your leg kick pedal, a cm400 rear "mag" wheel with good tire and a 17 inch front spoke with small drum and good tire minus speed rating as well as a bunch of random parts and pieces.

Been busy doing alot of welding in the shop. Picked up a nice Lincoln 140 mig. Works good for everything I do. Made up some mid controls using peg mounts I made from half it square stock and 1/4 thick steel. Still need to shape them a little farther. I integrated a brake pedal from an 80 somethin kz1000. I used the stock mounting locations and pieces chopped off of it. Raised them a bit too. Alows room for my exhaust to go over and under now as well.
