View Full Version : CB750 Survivor

I recently became the owner of this '72 Cb750 in an Amen rigid frame. It was featured in Street Chopper April of '73 and hasn't seen the road since the early 80's. In that time, it lived in an attic and a couple of different garages with a couple of different owners.

The day I dragged it home.

Street Chopper spread.

A mechanical restoration is already underway, then I'll put some miles on it before blowing it apart for a complete cosmetic resto (which will include a righteous paint job by Edog Kustoms). So far we've rebuilt the very bitchin' 18 over EME twisted girder, completely re-wired the bike, rebuilt the 29mm smoothbore Mikuni's, installed a new electronic ignition, new rear brake setup and a few other minor things. Also in the process of adapting some old, chrome Harley forward controls. I've already ditched the Prism tank in favor of an old Mustang until I can recreate the stretched and dished Sporty tank that was originally on the bike. It still has the 21" and 16" aluminum Akront's that have been on the bike since '72, so I thought it was only fitting that they should wear a brand new pair of re-pop Avon's to replace the crusty o.g.'s.

I'm still tossing around ideas for the exhaust, but I don't think I'll be going with drag pipes. Kinda leaning towards some kind of upsweeps..

Something like this:

Or this:

Or maybe even something a bit wilder:

I'm trying to have it running in time for Born Free, sooooo... Clock's ticking!

In any case, I'll post a progress report and new pics next week when I'm home from business travel. Thanks for reading!

Front end is almost finished. Cleaned up, polished, new oil-impregnated bronze bushings, brake hooked up. Just waiting on new cross shafts to be machined and front end is done. Still need to polish the Akront's and re-lace them. Then it will be time to mount up the re-pop Avon's I bought a few weeks ago..

Thanks for all the kind words, fellas. It's much appreciated. I've built several cars and trucks over the last 10 years, but this is my first "real" bike project! On that note, I'd like to mention that the old dude in a few of the pics is my buddy Bob Van. A master motorcycle mechanic and electrician, this project would not be moving along as quickly as it has been if not for his guidance and expertise!

The white Buick and flamed T-Bird are owned and built by my club brother Edog who sold me the bike. The wild Dodge van is a customer project that he's wrapping up at the moment. Dude is a helluva painter and will be painting the Honda and hopefully my '75 GMC when the time comes :)

Small update. Forward controls are mounted and the rear brake plumbed. I'm currently in the process of taking the og twisted pegs that were originally on the bike and making them work with the new controls.

New Dynatek electronic ignition installed. Still need to get some nicer looking hardware to mount the coils with and paint them semi-gloss black so they don't look like green ass.

We've spent a bunch of time cleaning and polishing and the old chrome and aluminum is shining pretty fucking nicely I must say. For shits and giggle we mocked up the hideous 4-into-1 that came with the bike.

I think I'm gonna go ahead and order up a set of Cycle X's Stainless "Roadster" pipes.

Things are moving right along and barring any tomfuckery, we oughta have this bastard road worthy in the next two weeks.

Until next time...
