So I've been riding my 1980 GS450 a bit, it has open pipes with a lollipop baffle, and pods. When I'm not on the gas, and just trying to cruise in the mid range rpms it runs like total shit, spitting and sputtering. I tried a bunch of different main jets and pilots, but a 140 main, and one up from stock for the pilot seems like its been working the best, but after testing plugs I still have one that is way too rich and one that is really lean. Where should I go from here? Leak down test?

I had a similar problem- I had to shim the needle with a small washer, seems a lot better now.

Did you shim both needs or just one?

Are your carbs synchronized?

They are bench synched pretty spot on...

I shimmed both- I didn't have a huge difference in rich/lean cylinders, although they are slightly different. It just eliminated the mid-range hiccups.
