Theres a guy here in Michigan that has 5 or 6 of these in his barn along with about 275 Triumphs, Nortons, Panthers and other single cilinders, board trackers etc. He has ton's of cool shit. Anyway he said that Harley sold these to racers and not the public, is this true or is it another model that looks like the first picture?

The rapido is pretty much the same bike I think. I thought the aermacchi was the track model, and the rapido was the street model. My neighbor has a few and I am trying to track one down as a little round town scoot. I know his 250 that he flat tracks he has had since new, he threw a mag setup on it to run lights and signals. I will try and grab a few pics.

Harley sold the Aermacchi's to anyone who would buy them. They are a great little thumper and can be made quite fast. There were some racers and were hideously fast and expensive. Were there one available around here I'd snap it up in the blink of an eye.

In 1908 , a tuned 250 -4-stroke version of the sprint single set a land speed record that acceeded 177mph at the Bonneville salt flats...The sprints were sold in 250cc and 350cc .. In 1960 Harley Davidson Purchased a half share in Aeronautica Macchi company alowing Harley to widen the market and sell light wieght motorcycles in Italy where they were already successful..In 1967 the Sprint 250cc Four Stroke single was Harley's Biggest selling Motorcycle.. They could acceed 70+ mph. And the 350 , which could reach over 90 mph was the second biggest seller in the U.S. in 67'.. In 1972 They turned the four stroke into 2 stroke to keep up with the Jap Dirt bikes..By1977 Japs took over the market and Harley sold the name back to Italy..The new owner there turned it into Cagiva and it became the biggest motorcycle manufacturer in Europe..
The racing versions of the sprint cr , crs , rr , and crtt , won a shitload of races here in the U.S. including four world championships on the grand prix circuit by Walter Villa..
JUST A LITTLE HISTORY ON THE SUBJECT...........
