hey all
i have the 38 mm mikunis that need total rebuilds. just wondering if there are any better carbs out there - esp something off another model - that will bolt right up? not looking for custom stuff or too fancy.

thanks all

If you are carb retarded, give this guy a call.. He can send them out ready to run...

I run Lectron Carbs, but im probably the only one who is a glutton for that kind of tuning punishment....

as far as I can find, 650central's prices on VM34's are the best on the web.

I'm running VM34's on one bike and am totally happy with them. Getting rid of the stock shit is a total no brainer to me.
From what I have heard.... the 38's are too much. EG getting them down enough to be runnable on 650's is a pain in the ass. That's just what I have heard though, have not tried.

How are you doing the throttle cables for these? Also what are the rubber things on your plug?

the throttle cable is from mikes and is a single that splits into 2. honestly, i don't know what the rubber boots on the plugs are for. that's what it was like when i got it. it's not up and running yet, so i have no idea if they'll have any impact on the plugs. i assumed they were there as a waterproofing mechanism, but again i really don't know.

thanks guys

well i am in the midst of making up a 2-into-1 intake manifold and going to toss my old 883 sporty carb on it just to see if it works and save me some cash. i am sure some jetting issues will need to be addressed but i figure what the hell - i have the tubing and the welder, and an extra carb so why not. worst case scenario i may just order up some new VM carbs for $200 or so. i am tired of doing everything half-assed so even though i know this bike wont command a lot of cash when i sell it, making it run and stop correctly are not items to skimp on.

if it works i'll post pics. was fairly easy to build. 1.75 inch exhaust tubes fit well.

Rubber seals on the plugs are actually supposed to go on the plug boot, it's on the spark plug upside down in that pic.
