I have a 1990 sportster 1200 with a belt drive . Im trying to order a new belt to put on and every one keeps trying to tell me this year should be a chain drive . From what I understand a belt drive on a 90 is a little rare but they did make em , maybe a late run before 91? anyways if any one knows the correct belt size let me know!

Looks like it's a 128 tooth belt, HD part # 40022-91

It may be a "rare" 4 speed belt drive or someone converted it to a belt final before it became your bike. HD offered a conversion kit (pn# 40110-89) consisting 0f a 1 1/8" belt, 61 tooth rear and 21 tooth front for 86 through 90 xl's.
I have a 1991 1200 that used to have a belt. Stock belt width is 1 1/8", 61 tooth rear and 27 tooth front. I'd get a stock belt for a 91 and call it a day.

I had assumed it was converted after a couple shops told me it was supposed to be chain drive but I've met a couple people that have the same bike in a belt drive and they bought it new. But yeah I'll assume its the 128 tooth which is one the 91. We shall find out soon enough.
