I have a 97 sportser..

U can see my build thread here..

I pretty much built this bike. I can fabricate pretty much anything. But motors I don't know too too much about. My question is, is there anything else I can do to this for a reasonable price to make it a lil faster without talking the whole motor apart? I have a digital single fire ignition. But Im sure there is a better one I can put in it.. I have a compufire in it now..The spark box is a chinese one..:(

I bet you can read and in turn crush that fear of "motors". If you dont want to "take the whole motor apart" it should be pretty obvious what you CAN change.

you already have a cam and intake. next would be head work.

Strip it down (more), loose weight.
Ditch the hammer, brass , and other heavy shit. Hardtail it. Swap in lighter batt. Cut down the covers (Cam, sprocket).
Then there's aerodynamics. Fairings. Rider position, mids or rear-sets and drag bars

swap out sprockets And drop the extra stuff!

If your cams have alot of overlap you are missing out on some scavenging with out a 2 to 1 exhaust. Adding baffles would help, or if you are good with welding maybe you could make a nice hidden crossover part in your current exhaust. My understanding is that drag pipes are only beneficial in the higher rpm's.

Send the heads off to Perry at Flo Headworks!
Then add a turbo....

With that much cam ur loosin power by not having the supporting parts. I can't stress how much more POWER a 2into1 exhaust makes. I went from drag pipes to a 2n1 pipe I built. Used a supper trapp diffuser disc in end for tune ability. Reall woke up my torque curve! Dropped over a 1/2 a second off my 1/4mile times!!!
If u can run a lathe or mill you have the smarts to learn to do engine work! A set of Buell XB 12 heads would be a big improvement over stock! After that call hammer performance or NRHS and get a 1250 kit(jugs and pistons), them make huge power! Easy to brake 100hp mark!

looking at that again..... your choking the bike out quite a bit with that intake shown in the pics, and with a cam and intake you should get a bigger carb. ive heard a lot about mikuni HS42's and S&S super E's. i would go with the S&S if you have the dough.
