Trying to put an early 45 springer on a big twin with a machined neck, so cup changes are out of the question. The local bearing supply store says the don't make a bearing the size that I need. Any ideas other than machining a sleeve?

Try allballs. The have a program that will get you straightened out. Basically put in the info from the front end and then the info on which frame you want it on and they tell you what bearings you'll need.
