I have a 84xlx with stock length 35mm fork tubes with Showa Lowers. I want to get some +4 or +6 tubes. I have found them on Bear's website but they are year specific, up to 83 and 84- Early 86. anyone know the differences? is it simply the stock length? I can get a deal on some +6 tubes for Showa lowers, but I'm not sure they'll fit.

I think it's with stock length. The early Showa's were 21.25" long, I think in the early 80's, they updated the 35mm and the tubes were 2" longer from the factory. So I'm pretty sure it has to do with length. Best bet is to measure your tubes and order some to the length you want.

Length was the only thing that I could think of.. thanks Sandman.

The early showa's just had a bushing in the top of the lower leg. When they updated it, they put a bushing on the tube like the 39mm. Better design IMO.
