View Full Version : Four Aces Cycle--Bonneville Speedweek Report

Well another year has come and gone at the Great White Dyno. We had a BALL!! I would like to give a big shout out to our Sponsors Steve Moody, Biltwell, Inc., Lowbrow Customs and American Icon. Steve pays our entry, American Icon gave us a whopping deal on our tee-shirts, Biltwell Bill Bryant designed our tee and hooked us up with AmIcon, and Tyler at Lowbrow helped us sell shirts and sold the do-do out of our new DVD while I was gone. Thanks guys, we could not have done it without you.

I also want to thank EVERYONE who bought a Tee-Shirt to help us get there andback without costing too much of an arm and a leg. Couple of guys threw us a few extra bucks too, thanks to them as well.

While I am playing academy awards here, let me thank Dangerous Dave, Danny "Snake" Milligan and Chris Collins from Biltwell. You could not ask for a better crew of guys to help out with the "not-so-sexy" part of racing, crewing that is. They drove the trucks, loaded the bikes, fired up the safety wire pliers and generally did the wild thing on the wild thing so Chuck and I could blast down that three miles of black line in Salt. Thanks also to Uriko for giving Chuck the thrill of a lifetime too.

I ran my 1951 Triumph TR5 and Chuck ran is '54 Cub. I am still chasing the 110.350 MPH record in my class (Modified Vintage Fuel) and Chuck ran on an open record and set it at 93 and change. Finally after four years I feel like I have walked up to the door of my class record, but still am not knocking on the door. 9 miles an hour better than last year though. My bike gave me great service this year and felt strong and dialed in. Chuck got his record then blew his bottom end to smithereens, not sure why yet. In the words of the great Dale Ernhardt though, "That's just hard racing."

Check out my new look, the tubular tanks and super swanky oil tank thanks to my buddy Mitch at Mitch's Custom Fabrication. Mitch welds like a guy who has been doing it for forty years. Thanks to Dennis at CaliChoppers for the fittings and fillers for my gas and oil tanks. BUy a CaliChop oil bag and combine Dennis' and Mitch's talents for a bad ass bag.

Highlights of the trip were: hitting the TON FINALLY, hitting the ton plus five finally, listening to Danny yell "shit!!" in his sleep, off-roading and sway-bar testing with Dangerous Dave, eating at Mildred's, asking that guy "what's a 'Busa?," and hanging out with my favorite like minded Salt freaks from Texas, the Big D Crew. Keith Martin is still my hero. ("Yer so fukin' stoopid, how do you get to work in the morning?")

Good show Wes, thanks for the report and pics!

I've been hearing Wes's tales of woe from the Salt for three years.. it is REALLY exciting and rewarding to hear all the hard work finally paid off for the men of Four Aces. Good work, Wes. Thanks for the props. Next year that record WILL be yours. Oh yes, if WILL be yours...

that pic of us at the sign is classic!

08-16-2009, 10:56 AM
Wes, I bought one of your t-shirts to show the love and these local Hawaiian's here keeping asking what and where the hell is Bonneville Speedweek. I guess when you spend your life like some of these cats do and don't even leave the Island you grow up a little sheltered. Great report bro......Laters...

08-16-2009, 11:57 AM
Yeah, Nice photos, but I haven't a stinking clue what photo 2 is. Hmmmm.??

I also bought one of your ultra cool T shirts awhile back, & doing my best to keep the grease off of it!.
Congrats on stepping up higher on the speed ladder, Reaching the top step wouldn't be
AS fun if you did it on the first try now would it.

Next year I'll be better prepared, but I had a blast. Too much shit going on to stay as long as I'd liked but fuckit,I got to be there! The camping is great and the salt is just another world altogether. If I can figure out how to post a pic I'll put up one of Clyde on the flats.

I haven't a stinking clue what photo 2 is. Hmmmm.??

The text above photo #2 says "blew the bottom end to smithereens."

I'm guessing photo #2 is a picture of the schrapnel.

I could be wrong.

Wes, please illucidate ...

superb - grand to hear you are getting closer to that record

08-17-2009, 7:50 AM
Hell yeah good going to you Wes, and to Chuck as well.. Next year that record will fall you are close now.

08-17-2009, 7:50 AM
And let me mention that Chuck's '54 cub is impressive, I have a '53 Triumph terrier and while I know I can do 60 or so, 90 odd miles an hour on that thing must be a bit scary

08-17-2009, 8:21 AM
Awesome. I'd love to go out there one year.

08-17-2009, 6:34 PM
Wes, good for you guys! Those speeds are just awesome. Scraper Joe gave me the story when he got back. You are so close to that record. Less cheeseburgers this year! HAHA.

08-17-2009, 7:43 PM
yes, that is the smithereens out of Chuck's bottom end. That little disk is a wire mesh filter at the bottom end like on the 500 units. It is filled up with metal shavings. I am gonna post a bunch more pics as soon as I get Danny's camera unloaded.

08-17-2009, 8:45 PM
it was nice to meet you out there on Saturday Wes. Will we see you on the salt in September or October?

08-17-2009, 11:21 PM
Wes, that's right on.

The best pit on the Salt.

These guys from Iowa had the coolest sidehack in the biz. Super nice bunch of folks

Here is another Hack rig, this one an Evo I think. BAD!

And this Vincent went 240 MPH once. Not at this year's event, but a few years back.

08-18-2009, 12:17 AM
Wes, what is the little red chingas poking out of Chucks fairing that looks kinda like an air horn?

08-18-2009, 1:07 AM
I think it is a little positive pressure for the gas tank, which may have not been vented properly the first time out.

08-18-2009, 2:25 AM
It was a GREAT trip! Met lots of cool people and had a blast! Nothing like it. Thanks Wes! Glad to help anytime I can. Can't wait for next year. It will be LEGENDARY!
