That bike is coming along nice. I see you live not far from me, I am in Port Moody. I have a few bobbers I ride around here on. Hope to see you out there some day.

cool man...i used to live in PM too...had a town home looking over inlet...but kids started to get bigger and I did not have 900k to buy a bigger full home...so off to the ridge we went.

Namoo Sushi is good if you have not been.

The Ridge works for us as well though. HD will be up for sale as soon as the new V Reg arrives if you know anyone.

Peace Brother !

I have a "build thread" on the orange bike, "xl250 dirt bobber", about 4 weeks old, about 4 pages into this jap bike section, check it out there.

ha ha........East Hill was where I was....you picture reminded me of it instantly. Did like it there and the view was cool........just growing kids made the place shrink fast...and no garage was no fun.

Anyway...nice bikes. Like the tires in the rust one....what is it and what are the tires..?

Thanx man. I sent the pic more to show the back yard and view. I do love this whole area of BC, this winter has hardly been a winter. I wish I had a garage though, I only have a basement workshop, level with back yard, so I can get bikes in. I have to take stuff to work to weld or grind.
You must have a good set up to fab the stuff you build:cheersmate:

I loved our East Hill yard. Sit on deck in early fall was amazing - 9000 squirrels hanging in those trees. Double down on love BC. I damn near converted our basement into a shop. It was that or do a nice finish on it and use it as a family room and I ended up dong that....like I said though super close on shopin it out and bringing a bike in through the back lower sliding door.

My set up is good. I have some decent tools. I have made some nice benches and a welding table....and set up the garage pretty good with shelving, lots of outlets or well positions power bars, and I keep it super clean.....thats basically it.

Tanks is mounted, forks close...still not sure if they will be painted or polished, seat mounted..... Stanchions are just tacked as I may cut those posts off and drill and tab them for a bolt, mid controls fab'd and tacked, motor mounts done.

ditched the trumpet deals on the exhaust end......I got them cause the looked mg42 ish, but I think they look cartoonish.....went with angle cut slight turn out. quick/quick shot of flat black primer and loose wrap of black wrap tpo see what it looks like....I like it. Baffles are bolted into 1 1/2 pipe right before it moves into 1 3/4. other side done tomarrow, then onto a mounting point for the pipes toward end of week.

Fender test . . . . . back and forth on this one. This is a chopped HD rear fender.... I dusted it silver so it would match the current look of the bike so i could decide if I like it.

Still on the fence, and unsure if it will be rigid enough with just one mounting point.

please submit votes :D

Ignition switch and coil in can,

........along with low profile fuses - 2 7.5 amps between ig switch and coil, and between coil and pamco - 2 10 amps between ig switch and headlight and tail light

*2 inline 20's between pma and voltage reg, and between voltage reg and batt

kill switch behind tank

lots of pics here;

I took 3 pics very much like the 3 below so I could post them with a few questions I had - Pete personally answered and also pointed out I had left the spark plug out of the hole when I was installing the advance directly above - good call
I took the below pics after slightly changing the crank position.......but made sure I had the spark plugs in their holes :D

Looks awesome.

The fuses underneath the belly would woorry me though, stuff like that you want accessable asap if they pop.

TrueNorthMetal
05-11-2014, 5:02 PM
Thanks Spidr....I did think about fuse location for a while....and I did make a 'floor pan' that is quick removable with only 4 bolts....and then of course they are accessable through the top but need to remove the battery.

End result for me was this; fuses pop for a reason. Good thing is that they offer some protection.....bad thing is....you still need to figure out why they popped. Especially the 20's on each side of the voltage reg under the battery. Think I have issues if I pop those.......2 7 1/2's and 2 10's are in the electro can.....which is also not a place I want to get into multiple times a day, but they are close to the rear and accessable by removing rear panel

My thoughts are that assuming you have wired it right and dont have other issue such as shorts and failing electro units....should not have the need to get at them all the time.

Dunno - hope I am right.

Yay - Sun in BC today !!!!!!!!!

master cylinder is from an 89 gxr. 14mm where orig was 13mm....it will be fine. Ground ball off lever and polished. Not bled yet as I have no fluid in 'reservoir'.

not sure on color combo - think I will go to raw metal on master and throttle -clutch perch too - then even raw metal on bars........................maybe

That has got to be the cleanest XS engine I've ever seen. Looks like it just came off the assembly line. Great lookin bike!

Glad to see some more updates. That frame is as surgically clean as the motor. I would never be able to keep a non-black framed bike clean enough. Keep up the great work!

Nice work so far, very well documented with crisp photos.
I have an XS650 that I just finished, and it vibrates like a jack hammer. This makes me think that you might have two problem areas in the electricals.
One is that your battery positive post appears to be sitting in a notch cut into a steel bracket. When that bike gets to buzzing it WILL cause a dead short, or worse a total meltdown. Maybe it is just an illusion in the picture?
Second, the fuses. Why did you choose the glass in line fuses? They are sensitive to vibration as well as poor contacts. A better fuse choice would be mini-atc. Or better yet, auto-resetting circuit breakers.
Just my $.02.

Funny.......total illusion. Took me a while to figure what you were saying. On Fuses........all are mini atv except for 2 that I used to isolate the battery and pma from the ig switch..........think I had a reason for doing that but cant right now remember what it was............could have been the reason I call "target fixation"..........anyway, easy to change if I have issues.
