Hey CC'ers,
I'm working on a 73 cb750 project right now. I needed to remove the swingarm and a bunch of other stuff to clean up the rear end. That's when I noticed that the drive gear seemed a bit loose:

It doesn't rotate abnormally, just kind of swings back and forth toward me, maybe 1/16" either way. Nothing else seems loose at all.

It's like you've tightened down a bolt but it hasn't gone far enough and the washer still has some wiggle room . . . another turn or two of the nut would button down everything.

I haven't taken anything apart, but I'm wondering if the chain oiler tension might be off to cause this looseness? Otherwise what should I start to look for?

Thanks.

I had a quick look, mine does the same.
Its the opposite of a press fit gear.
It's so the sprocket can be removed easily when it needs to be replaced.
It might have somrthing to do with the oiler working properly as well.
Its secure and its fine, nutin to worry about.

on that bike, if that sprocket was mounted solid, it would forever come loose or break.
