View Full Version : A personal and public apology

I think part of being able to speak one's mind where and when ever also means being able to own up to one's mistakes. I could have sent this in a PM, but it wouldn't have really done anything to rectify the situation other than squashing beef with a dude I've never met and don't know anything about. I partially fucked up a thread that should have been about giving props to a dude doing rad shit with his friends. Instead, I turned it into a personal self-righteous rant about bull shit.

So I wanted to take a moment to publicly apologize to that dude Steve and his Lords of Fun crew. I'm sorry for fucking up your thread and taking anything less than awesome shit away from it. What you're doing, and people who do what you're doing (IE: sharing with the world the things you love most about your life) isn't wrong, it's not exploitative, and it's not bad for anyone. I was being a dick, and I'm sorry.

I'm the first person here to rally the troops when I think there's something fucked up going on, and I'm probably the first dude calling someone out for what I consider to be bull shit. So, I think it's only fair to call myself out on my own bull shit and, for transparency's sake, do it publicly.

And before this turns into another bull shit rant, i'll stop. Now, if you'll all take a few minutes to check out this rad video and see it for what it should have been seen as WITHOUT my shittyness, you'll probably really dig it. Sorry again, Steve and crew.

FBM dudes are cool in my book. I still haven't broken my angel of death frame, so that's nice.

I understand this is an apology thread, but I gotta wonder rubs, wheres your build thread and the stuff you do?

These guys ride and make vids, they throttle on their little pedal bikes, and are having a blast....

They do what others wish they could. Hipster? I don't know about all that...

I do know you're awful vocal when it comes to calling others out and bashing this or that though, so you're clearly willing to talk the talk...but do ya walk the walk?

I find you to be hilarious man, and I do think you're an asset around here anyhow....just wondering what you wrench on when you're not being paranoid or pissed?

I'm not a custom fabricator, and I don't pump my chest like I am. But I would say I walk as much as I talk.

And I have a 78 shovelhead. foot clutch, jockey shift, open belt (I didn't do the belt, and the person who did was kind enough to cut me up a linkage for the jockey shift set up and just tossed it on for me since it was all right there). I ride it like I stole it. I'm also taking a welding class right now, and have big plans for the bike come the spring. It'll be a swing arm bike, and it should look pretty fuckin' righteous. I'm not really one of those people that talks about this shit, because even at my best, I'm probably no better than an adequate builder at their absolute worst. But I guess that's the time to start a build thread.

I started a thread on here about how I was taking a welding class, and plenty of dudes were stoked on the idea of it. I did a shitty job of keeping it updated, but every time i learn something new, I post it up on my IG. but again, i'm not doing anything ground breaking, and i'm just not the kind of dude to be like, "HEY GUYS, LOOK AT THIS SUPER BASIC SHIT I CAN DO!"

I split lanes, I've surfed my shit, I've crashed, burned and rebuilt, and I get around. Don't really know what else there is to walk about.

Preliminary plans are in the works right now that will bring me to vegas, where a fellow CC'er has been kind enough to agree to let me scoop up a loaner bike and roll out with him and his crew through the desert to Born Free. There won't be a documentary about it, or magazine coverage, or any sick photo shoots. But I'll be out there doing what I've always done -- jamming and partying. And I didn't come here and freak out about it because I don't really see any reason for it to be public. If these preliminary plans come to fruition, i'll be happy to PM interested parties some kind of base line itinerary of where i'll be and when i'll be there.

But your questions are fair ones to ask. I just don't like posting about shit, or showing my shit off, or bragging or whatever, unless I have reason to do so. This website is a great resource, but to be honest, I'm here less for the tech tips and more for the shooting the shit with dudes who are interested in the same things I am but come from all different walks of life. It's more about the entertainment than the learning experience.

edit: also in regards to "walking the walk," the guy you meet in real life is the same dude that sits behind this keyboard. i'm just as vocal, just as outrageous, just as funny, and just as unabashedly critical. and when push comes to shove, i plant my feet and do what i gotta do. no question. there was a member here who said he had some choice words for me, and that he was going to do this or do that and yada yada yada... i won't mention names, but i pm'ed him privately and offered to drive 3 hours (each way) to give him a chance to say what he had to say and do what he felt he had to do. he declined. no audience, no crowd, no showboating, no photographers, no PR people or press releases -- that's just not how I do things.

You don't need to be a custom fabricator. Or a welder. Or a professional mechanic.

I just wonder why a guy who is so passionate about bikes, which I give you the benefit of the doubt to be, doesn't spend more time talking shop, that's all.

I hope you update often and show pics and info about your upcoming build man. That's what matters. Some of the best bikes ever were built by guys who don't consider themselves "bike builders". In reality man, most people who ARE considered builders are just like everyone else, except they have been given the unique opportunity to survive doing something they love as all of or a large part of their financial earnings. That's it.

I'm glad you didn't take my questions as an attack, because they definitely weren't intended to be.

I guess it boils down to my asking if there can maybe be more of the rubs who wants to talk bikes, cause only hearing about how these people aren't real bikers, how things others do 'ruins the scene', etc. gets old dude. There is no scene... if you're doing all this stupid motorcycle shit for any other reason than because you love it and it's a bond between you and your friends you're probably in it for the wrong reasons anyhow.

We're all hipsters man. No one is reinventing the wheel here. At the end of the day all that matters is that YOU enjoy what YOU do. Who cares about other peoples time spent on shit?

See though, that sounds like high school. And this isn't high school. It's the internet, which is even more stupid and ridiculous. :clap for you:

Water off a ducks back man.

Just remember that every minute you spend taking this shit seriously is another minute that you're not working on your bike(s) or riding.

The internet should never be taken seriously mang. :cheersmate:

actually, what you just said to me is a lot of what i said to myself when i sat down earlier this weekend and reflected on my comments made in that thread. that reflection is the legitimate reason for this thread, and i hope steve gets to read it. even though the comments didn't really matter to him, my behavior in that thread really bummed me out. it's just no way to act. simple as that.

sorry, but i disagree with this. i have never, nor will i ever, say anything to anyone on the internet that i wouldn't be prepared to say -- and defend -- to their face in real life. i think a lot of the problems we have in society is because people live too freely by the "i can say and do whatever the fuck i want because it's the internet and none of it matters" school of thought. but that's just me. and that's why i started this thread. because i don't believe in not being held accountable for the things i say. i was an unjustifiably self righteous ass hole, and it's not acceptable -- even mixed in with all the other bull shit and clutter of the interwebs.

But you can't deny that there's a problem when you have to repeatedly defend what you say when you are half cocked and amped up about something that really isn't that big of a deal anyhow.... like the internet.

If someone on here wants to run their mouth about you, let em'. Who cares?

It's like I always tell people who I just don't get along with..."we're not neighbors, you don't babysit my kids and we're not gonna be sitting across the table at dinner together anytime, so I guess I don't really give two shits what you think."

see, i also disagree with that. this world is small, and everyone in it should be prepared to look their peers in the eye. i'd say i've met at least 30 of the members on this website, and i'd like to think there's still plenty more to meet. i owe at least 4 or 5 dudes on this website beers -- and i legitimately intend on following through with that lol

I almost didn't click on this thread because honestly (and yes I would say this to your face) I normally try and avoid most of your threads. It just kinda seemed in the past you were an attention whore screaming look at me guys and just being a general pain in the butt. Granted you are entertaining just childish at times.
Now that being said if you honestly meant this apology and are truly sincere then I am impressed and have a new found respect for you. I agree with some things you said about internet making people say shit because they were behind a screen and not in front of your face and to be truthful here I kinda figured you as one of those dudes before. So while we are apologizing here then Rubs I would like to buy you a beer and start over. :cheersmate:

FWIW I've found your posts to be both opinionated and entertaining and mostly very close to my own life views. Go buy yourself a beer and quit being so hard on yourself. If I run into you at Born Free I'll buy YOU a beer.
