tha plan is to get the bike low , pait it with green and copper flakes , and i am going to copper and nickel plate a lot of parts , already got all the stuff at home to do this , we will wee how it goes .

It had some big ol air bags. Cool take on the fender strut. What is the extra piece sticking straight back down by the lower mount in the second to last pic?...and do you want to sell the maroon tank?

rene53catalina
09-08-2013, 5:27 AM
:D the air shocks are way to stiff , they are for the suspension of a truck cabin , the piece sticking back is for the tail light .

i an not going to use the tank anymore so i am willing to sell it , however i live in the netherlands so the shipping will be a bitch

time for an update , last week i started with the copperplating , and as i expected : nothing worked ,
i tried all kind of acids and materials , but the iron parts did not accept the copper , in the mean time i was getting kind of mad about the whole thing until i read somewhere that steel does not accept copper , it must me nickel plated first , so i did that , nickel plating went great , and then the copper
bloody bloody shit , it did nothing , well , it did something , it removed the nickel .
back to nothing again ,
and then the light came to me , when the stuff is in the acid solution both the copperpipe and my part both started to bubble , that means that they both have current on them  what i need is DC and i used AC , tried it with a simple battery and VICTORY !! there was copper
here a few pics

20 liters of battery acid , nice !!

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii103/rene74monte/DSC_0359_zpsdc41d9e9.jpg (http://s262.photobucket.com/user/rene74monte/media/DSC_0359_zpsdc41d9e9.jpg.html)

everything together in a bucket

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii103/rene74monte/DSC_0360_zps10b2b0a2.jpg (http://s262.photobucket.com/user/rene74monte/media/DSC_0360_zps10b2b0a2.jpg.html)

and nothing happend

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii103/rene74monte/DSC_0361_zpsd088e836.jpg (http://s262.photobucket.com/user/rene74monte/media/DSC_0361_zpsd088e836.jpg.html)

and then with the battery

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii103/rene74monte/DSC_0368_zpsa061cd41.jpg (http://s262.photobucket.com/user/rene74monte/media/DSC_0368_zpsa061cd41.jpg.html)

to be continued , i hope

well now , here is my first real copperplated cyclepart , it is not perfect just like myself :D
i nickelplated it first and then the copper , it is somewhat harder to do than i thought at first , especially the electrical bit .

here it is :cheersmate:

hahaha , yeah , you are competely right , i am not somebody who asks how much air i should put in the tires and how much torque the valvestem caps should have , those kind of people should just go outside and mow their lawn or something
i like do do everything myself , and if i do not know then there are books , and in the last case maybe i`ll ask :D
i have been messing with old cars for about 30 years and lately also with bikes , but the principles are the same , only difference is the weight

whats that supposed to mean??? last thing I need is for my harley tech to get mad at me for my valve caps being to tight... you dont know what its like to spend 50 dollars on the bad ass valve caps more than once...

but for real man not that my opinion matters much, especially on the internet but props on the home plating. bad ass shit

Shoot, did his own plating, nailed the paint, working on a cool bike in a foreign country, AND coined a cool new phrase! Hood solid is the new tits.

11-02-2013, 1:48 AM
thanks guys , i am not sur about the tank myself but i`m gonna go with it for now , it is a very old tank that almost nobody has so that`s nice .
it ias fun to work on , it`s my first bike i so it`s all new to me , bu don`t be surprised if i take the whole thing apart again next year and do something completely different with it :D

as for the copper plating , i am not sure i am going with that couse the copper layer is so fricking thin it is not really a protective layer and it is starting to rust already partially becouse of the acid i think but i have to find a way to make the copper layer thicker , so for now that is not really hood solid:D

well , at the moment i am using a 1.5 volt battery , don`t know about the amps , but they say it is best about 1 amp ,
can you let me know how your plating works out ?

A battery charger would be your best bet. Also, you should neutralize the acid after plating to prevent rust.

rene53catalina
11-03-2013, 12:14 PM
yes , that is something that is very important , i use a bucket with water and soda , and after that i rinse it very toroughly with water and soap and then blow dry

i started painting the tank , hope it comes out nice :D

and part of the design , took me almost half a day to tape and cut everything out

thanks , i try to do things different but most things are already done somewhere in time :-)

rene53catalina
11-15-2013, 2:08 PM
well now , i had a little bit of a set back , when i took the tape off i also took the red paint off :-) , so i had to remove all the colour and start over again , now here we go again :-) :-)
here i already painted the red lines again and masked it off to pain the second colour

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii103/rene74monte/DSC_0598_zps2df8194c.jpg (http://s262.photobucket.com/user/rene74monte/media/DSC_0598_zps2df8194c.jpg.html)

here i painted the gold part

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii103/rene74monte/DSC_0601_zps3285bd5d.jpg (http://s262.photobucket.com/user/rene74monte/media/DSC_0601_zps3285bd5d.jpg.html)

then i took off all the tape and it comes out like this , as you cab see it is also a learning process for me becouse the red stripe in the middle off the top scallop does not belong there :-)

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii103/rene74monte/DSC_0602_zps4fcd868b.jpg (http://s262.photobucket.com/user/rene74monte/media/DSC_0602_zps4fcd868b.jpg.html)

and the next step is to mask off the painted parts , again

http://i262.photobucket.com/albums/ii103/rene74monte/DSC_0603_zps219770ff.jpg (http://s262.photobucket.com/user/rene74monte/media/DSC_0603_zps219770ff.jpg.html)

next is the last colour , i am not sure i am doing the taping the right way , but i think it is the only way to do this , but is is a shitload of work

WhiteFox
11-16-2013, 7:09 AM
Great work so far man! As for your taping... Have you tried fineline tape? It makes things so much easier. I couldn't believe it when I saw you masked the whole tank then began cutting out patterns! Fine line tape would make the job easier, not to say that you are not doing it right because if it works for you, then it is.

Green tape supposedly works the best. I've been using blue 1/8" 3M brand fine line and it does not like tight bends and often slides leaving behind a glue residue. I just purchased some green tape from www.customfinelinetape.com and can't wait to try it on my paint.

rene53catalina
11-16-2013, 11:45 AM
yeah , i do use fineline tape , i use it on top of the other tape , the small curves are indeed a pain in the ass , when i make a small curve i immediately put another piece of normal tape over it so it stays in place and i cut it later .
thanks for the link for the tape , i will have a look there

well , it is not completely my own idea , i saw something like it on the internet and it kept messing with my brain :D

dig the built, like what you have done with the paint and the pipes but the only draw back to the pipes is all the heat that around the ignition, that will put a short life on it for sure..
but still killer

rene53catalina
12-30-2013, 2:04 PM
yeah , i was thinking about that too , it does have some room between the pipes and the engine so maybe it will be ok , we will see

Have to agree with Hillbilly, Arby and Masonburke; at first I was thinking that this build was gonna be a crash and burn, but holy shit this dude's got skills! Metal fabrication & welding, DIY copper-plating (WTF?! who does that shit at home?), painting, and then leather work? All at professional grade. This guy's my hero.

Rene, keep posting pics. I think we all want to see this when it's done, and as it's being done.

Rene, hard to say exactly. Pics of the preliminary work and materials didn't show what you were doing or how well you could do it until somewhere deep into the first page when the paint started. Then POW, holy crap.

What's that word psychoholic that you made up mean to you

I instantly got the White Zombie reference and it was what Zombie called his fans/groupies back in the day."Psychoholics" But it has a definition.

psychoholic

adj.

Psychic and psycho mixed. When two people are so closely linked that they finish each other's sentences or frequently say the same thing at the same time. Particularly applicable if what is said is bizarre.

water , salt and a car battery , used vinyl decalls for the letters

Any chance you could do a how to or something on this? Or is it a secret you don't want to give away? I'd love to try it.

rene53catalina
05-13-2014, 6:25 AM
hahaha , no , it is no secret , it is relatively simple .
1 take a bowl of water big enough to put your part in.
2 add kitchen salt , to less alt it does not work , too much and they say it does not work also , it does not really matter how
much exactly , you will see if it works or not . stirr it well so the salt is dissolved.
3 take a car battery or charger , i do both , hook the battery to the charger and connect 2 wires to the battery terminals.
4 connect the positive lead to the part you want to etch and connect the negative to a piece of metal , does not really matter , just some kind of strip will do
5 mask off the parts you DON`T want to etch , you can use tape or sticky letters , or even paint ,
6 put your part connected to the positive in the salt water and the strip with the negative also , make sure they do not touch each other

now watch , it begins to bubble and the water turns really dirty , i mean REALLY :-) brown and black with dirty foam and all kind of shit ,
but that is ok , leave the part in for a few minutes , take it out and see how it looks , stainless steel goes really slow but aluminium goes a lot faster so
you will have to watch what it is doing .

what happens is the current goes from positive to negative and takes the material of the part along with it , exept what is under the tape .

hope it is a bit clear , it can not really go wrong

Ramzilla

Mocnyang

I hear ya, if the Netherlands is anything like new york it's almost impossible to start a business. When I looked into it the cost just for the licenses and permits was ~50k. That doesn't even include the shop, tools, or even the utilities. After that I'd be a younger mechanic trying to build a rep with all of the grey beards and something tells me that would be the hardest part.

the shipping part is something i am not very keen on , lost of risks on damage , and yes , word to mouth is the way to go ,

sprayed a piece of transparent fuel line red with candy and clearcoat and it looks waaay better this way , also this looks much better than with a hose clamp , it is the little things that make the difference :-)

the paint came off , it went totally soft , even the hose itself became soft and the petrol came right through the hose , now that the paint is gone the hose is not soft anymore and is not wet from the petrol anymore , i have no idea what happened but as it turns out you can not paint transparent fuel line

you can buy reinforced ruby red FUEL line like that from MOON or SPEEDWAY MOTORS .it wont get soft and rot and cause a gas leak and burn up your badass chopper . check em out .

i will look it it , problem is that most of the red lines i found were to small and would be very expensive with the shipping to the netherlands
