Hey CC, Name's Mark fro Massachusetts
I've been around these bikes for a long time but this is my first chop. It started as an Unmolested, Mint 79 XS1000 Special with a Kerker 4-1 Exhaust. For $700 Cash with a clear title and I drove it home. I havent had much chance to work on it as im away at college in New York state 9 months out of the year. I figured I would post up where im at in Mock up with it and hopefully update it periodically.

Goal:Build a decent looking Sprung, 2 passenger, shaft driven chopper on a college budget

New Tires, the vintage dunlop qualifiers are toast
Fab the mounts on the tank
Tig the After Hours Choppers fuel gauge on
lower the front like an inch
install 10.5" Sporty rear shocks
reupholster the buddy pad
rewire the fuse block

Here a borrowed picture of what my bike looked like when I bought it, Mine didnt have bags

Rode it like this for the first few months I rode it

And here's where it sits as of today, Just mocked up can't do much until the shocks are installed and the ride hieght is established.

And my fat ass

thanks guys, i see the 650s everywhere but few 1100s, it is fast as all hell, and loud. i like it because its not a bike you see everyday. so far im not even over $1000. This is for me and the lady so the seat is a must have

well I got a few minutes in the shop today and decided to weld up my subframe extensions. As you can see in the earler stages of the build I hacked the rear frame rails off as i was aiming for a Solo build. Since my girlfriend decieded she wanted to ride with me, I need to extend the old rails back to support the fender and rider.

I took a few scraps from the metal bin and got cutting on the cold saw. Ended up with (2) 6" pieces of 1" tubing, (2) 2" Solid Steel slugs, and (2) spent ball joints

TIG welded the slugs in one end

then welded the ball joints in the other end to finsih them off a bit

I'm going to weld them on over spring break, I dont have a TIG at home so I do what I can when I have the chance, Ill mig them on at home and sand them flush

Here is the after hours choppers sight gauge kit, Includes the weld in bungs which ill be welding in wedensday I hope

Well im home for spring break so some work is getting done, foot pegs, maybe rewiring my new fuse block, I finished the headlight bracket, added the 10.5" rear shocks, finished the after hours kit and also welded on the rear drops in the frame.
