So Im deciding to build a bike. Picked up a 79 KZ400 from a buddy for a couple bucks. He had already hacked it up, but could never get it to run..... So this is how it comes to me. Im new to building bikes, but have been building jeeps and buggies and things for a few years. Anyways, this build should go fast.( every builders last words) Heres my rough layout of how im doing the frame. I know, Detroit bro knockoff, but hey, their stuff looks badass.

So the way he had it.....

And the cutting begins...

Ill be modifying the forks to be shorter and not stick past the riser, but for now this is ride height.

This is the general mockup. The tube parallel to the ground will be the last tube before the tire. the tubes coming from the axle plate will tie into the sides of it.

Should look good i guess. Dont see many home chops around here

4' ride height.

21" seat height. No thats not the seat Im using, just needed one for mockup.

And my everyday ride until I get this thing done..

would the stock loop have been that far off. i really like the stock Kz frame. its simple pretty clean atleast after you hack off the tail. I think it would have been nice if you could have kept the stock loop down and just welded your new components to that.

I know everyone is a critic. Looks good other than that. what kinda of stretch will this be. Also have you thought much about shortening the forks. It gives these bikes a really cool squatty look when you do. the travel is pretty long so you can shorten them considerably.

yeah, under normal circumstances i probably wouldve kept the stock loop. but... if you look at the pic of how i got the bike....there was about 3 feet of welds that the guy who had it before me seemed it needed gusseted with 1/4 plate steel. yeah.... a bit much, so more or less i doubted the structual integrity of those bars after i wouldve spent days cutting all that shit off.

Plus... I see the same stuff all the time, wanted to try something different.
