Hey Guy's my first post here.

I've had my xs project going on 13 years... it doesn't look like it's getting done any time soon with me being in a different country, starting a family and having 0 spare cash. But I'm so anxious to get moving on it I've decided to build it in 3D and figure out all how it's going to look before I get started. Doesn't cost me anything I guess.

Anyway, what do you guys think of the tank idea I put together just now? Looks like a caravan, maybe I'll call it the pikey!

Should look good high or low mounted

Reminds me of a minibike tank I sawt a while back.

Personally I like it mounted low...But mount it however you like. Just make sure to position the petcock accordingly...

I have to say I like the low mount myself.

I'm almost for the high mount and I dig low tanks. With those tucked lower edges itll look nuts high mounted.

altchop, I just noticed the detail on your motor model is great. First question is, what CAD package are you using, second question, where did you get the model for the motor!

I agree with eric.

I saw that same one. On Egay right? I wanted to buy it so fucking bad, but didn't have the cash at the time. Anyone else know what the fuck it's off of? Aside from the obvious statement of "minibike"?

That tank is made by Pabatco. It is an aftermarket tank made for Hodaka's. I have a NOS chrome on and i have on on this.

Fuck that looks cool. I was gonna cut out the tunnel and frisco it, and use on just what you did! My XS. Nice ride, a little bright for me, but cool none the less.

here is the bike as i first built it, before I brightened it up. Along with the brightening up, it got a hydraulic clutch, 700 cc kit, flattrack cam and a pamco electronic ignition.

My personal opinion, flat sided tanks with 90* edges just look halfassed.

Hope he tucks his shirts in. Other wise he won't have one. Ha.

Actually they're more like 130 - 70 deg, the edges are 10mm radius'd and the side faces are curved which probably isn't obvious. But I get your meaning... Maybe I'll call it that!

@philby - The engine model represents about 120-150 hrs work in Maya so far and it's very detailed yes, however in an engineering sense pretty much only useable as a reference piece, which is all I want it for.

top work, I'd love to get hold of that model to drop into my own cad package, just as a visual reference more than anything. Is it dimensionally approximate at least?

altchop
03-02-2010, 3:48 PM
Philby, It's dimensionally pretty accurate, all measurments are referenced from photo's and mount dimensions.
Howeverwhat you see is all I have done and there's still a very long way to go. Because of the amount of time and effort I've put in I'd like to try making some money out of it as well so I'm gonna put it up on a 3D Market site when it's (the engine) done.

Don't blame ya on that one. I spent HOURS upon HOURS making parts for my bike in 3D....

yeh I've not used CAD full time for a while, and I'm probably losing the knack, maybe modelling my engine is a good way to go!
