Hi,
i'm going to built my first Ironhead in a original swingarmframe. A challenge because the frame stays 100% original ;)
at first i thought of an 70s chop with sissybar and backrest. But only for luggage.
But now after a while of experimentation it goes in a more modern direction and I'm ready to post some pics.

hopefully i get the new frontwheel and some other parts next week so i can take a complete picture.

This sissybar is only a sample/ pattern. I'm going to bend the real one out of Stainless Steel.
Tank and Aircleaner are made of Aluminium

no one cares? Yeah I know... its the original frame ;)

not that much progress.
Done a lot of prototyps for alumium castings the last months.
I got my 21" frontwheel. got my seat, sissybar finished , casted a Taillight und bought some small Parts. The Rims are black powdercoated and spokes stainless. Just thinking about mounting a rimcover on the rearwheel.
I put up pictures of the whole bike, as soon as i got my rims mounted.

Still alot of work to do.

after one day sneaking around the bike i decided to cast another Taillight. Maybe 2 or 3.
I wanted it simple , now its to simple.

tried something else for my headlight. dont know.
Made out of Steel
trash or schould I keep it ? Chrome? I dont want a ordinary bracket. Or I mount a 39mm Fork.
perhaps just another tripletree.

Any chance you could set the headlight farther back into the nacell?

Mindwar

no just got only 3/4inch , or I cut off the end of headlight then i have to weld it. Dont want to ruin the chrome.

Ok i totally forgot about this thread since my IE didnt wanted to open any Chopcult sides.
I did a lot of changes to my Ironhead. Mounted 5° trippletrees. 21" in the front , 16" in the rear. Gonna change it to a 18" as soon as I got one.
Made the oiltank and welded in the rips. They stick 2" into the tank for better cooling.

I got rid of the headlight cover because the new trippletrees got holes to mount the headlight.

64063

Changed the shape of the rearfender.

64064

right now im working on a casted finned Aluminum tank. Gonna post pictures of the tank stuff as soon as I got it ready for casting.

64065

Gonna use our new acrylic pointocver. I like the red one with all the black and Aluminium parts.

64067

Now I need a solution for a cable - hydraulic front break.

Bike should be done first week of dec for the Custombikeshow2015 in Germany.

Got a lot of stuff to Chrome and polish....

cheers guys.

Sweet scoot. Any info on the shocks? They look like 11's from what i can tell.

Mindwar
09-26-2015, 10:21 AM
Thanks .. Yes 11" but I dont have a brand. Got them in a progressive suspension box with a PS sticker on them but they look like some super cheap after market ones.
I only used them to get the roller done. 15 bucks on ebay. ;)
Gonna run fournales when I got the Money.

Aluminum oiltank built. The rips are welded 2" into the tank.

A lot of cutting , grinding, sanding and welding.

Ok, here are some Shots of the aluminium cast gastank. Had to do 5 pieces because of the shape.
I ll weld the pieces together. Maybe im going with a complete polished tank.

I built a Prototype with an old tank I made a while ago. Then molded the fins with a lot of Bondo and Wood.
Made a mold with plastercast and casted the tankshell with polyester resin to get the right thickness.

No space for a petcock. Now I got that racer style going. upper one is normal. the lower one reserve.
I use 3way petcock of an old tractor. Looks huge in the Picture somehow...

Nothing Special. Switch housing. So no twisted wires and the hidden petcock. I bend 8mm steel pipe so the two fuel hoses are parallel.
The lower-upper Motor mount is crap. Gonna make a new one.

Tanks man. Yes, when the custombikeshow in december is over I got time to make some more of the potato stickers.

right now im fabricating 2 new stainless levers for brake and clutch. I use a nissin radial brakepump and a cheap aftermaket clutch Thing.

Very nice looking bike, well done. I was wondering how you managed to stop the rear wheel hitting or rubbing the fender with the 11" shocks. Standard is 12 1/2 inch I think?? How does it ride?

Mindwar
02-09-2016, 2:32 AM
I mounted rubber stops in the shocks. I got about 1". Its almost a hardtail but I needed Shocks for the TÜV in Germany. :D

Thanks! What height are those risers - 10 inches maybe? Very interested to hear how this bike develops, I'm working on a project 1981 Ironhead, I have found so far that making it look good makes it handle like sh*t I ride it a lot so I have to make sure it's safe and slightly comfortable! Thanks for your post, you've given me some nice ideas.
