Anyone else have this problem? The new bikes just don't do it for me, at all! I can't see myself owning one, I've test rode damn near every kind since I work in a shop, and they just don't have that raw feeling of an old one! Seeing how I was born when electronic ignition came out, I have an infatuation with points, carburetion, cast iron cylinders, pushrods! I was born too late!

I was never allowed to own motorcycles growing up, so when I moved out I bought a 03 Honda Shadow, yeah it was a good reliable bike that took me to plenty places, but it just didn't "Do" it for me.. Then I built an 85 Honda 250 bob/chop for 500$, and still, something was missing, but I liked it much more than the more powerful, newer bike. And now I own a 76 Ironhead I did a full bottom up rebuild on, and now I'm addicted!! I want to rebuild all the old motors I can and ride the piss out of them. Working in a shop I've learned a lot of awesome things about bringing them back to life, so I got the hang of it, and love every minute of it.. Even stuck on the side of the road kicking wondering wtf went wrong! I love the fact that these machines were built before CNC cutting machines and computers, they were made by smart engineers with a pencil, paper, compass, and dial indicators, just cool shit if you ask me! My cylinders and heads on my Iron are rusty, and I chose to leave them that way even after I fully rebuilt it because it really just shows its age, in a fully polished aluminum engine.. (no chrome for me!) It's a rainy day rant, and my Ironhead is completely leak free, so I figured I'll bullshit on the web with like minded strangers. If I can't kick it, I really want no part in it! I bought mine without a kicker, and between charging problems and burning up starters, I added a kicker during the rebuild and don't touch the electric until I absolutely need it.

I just feel like I got into the old bikes sooner, the guys at the shop say shit like "why do you fuckers who are good at this wait til you're in your late 20s to start fuckin with it all?!" lol!

These are some of the machines that come into the shop, as you see, I don't take pictures of the new stuff :P

I got to work on brothers speeds miracle machine! Willie G wants it in his museum when he passes, and my names carved into it, along with many other greats.

Found the 68 trumpet motor in a barn for 200$, ended up selling it for a decent profit because I had to rebuild the Ironhead, I really wish I could've kept it, I enjoyed taking it apart and looking at the goods, would've been a fun build... I'll find another one day. .

Still sifting through pictures..

No offense to you new bike guys, I hope you don't get arthritus in your button finger ;D

Most people my age around here aren't into old bikes "they're not as reliable or fast" blah blah bullshit or are into drift cars... Hey, to each their own, but I have a good amount of friends who enjoy bringing them to life and riding old Iron. Time machines.

At 20, I know what you mean. I'll keep my smoke spewing fire breathing shovel, you can keep your soulless prius.

Very recognisable story.... Last year i've bought a 2001 Lexus IS 200. It is a very good and reliable car, but i miss the old stuff. Now i'm looking for a pre 1970 Cadillac. :D

I feel bad because plenty cats on new bikes will come oggle at my bike, but I won't go to theirs lol! They all look the same except a twin cam has a wider cam chest, other than that the motors just... do nothing for me, and that, to me, is the most important part! Big ole new 50k choppers, naaaahhh, lol they'll look sad when I don't come ask them about their bikes! But if I see an old bike, I'm hounding the owner!

I like that even your pictures look vintage.

Most of them were taken on an iPod touch, earlier generation with camera, so it gave an extra grainy picture, which did add to the vintage appeal. Now I have an iPhone and it takes wonderful pictures all sorts of focusing and such! I feel like I'll have fun with it.

I use filtering in Instagram to achieve an older, browned look to the photos, which I really dig... I love the old polaroids that develop right in your hand, so try to go for that look since this is the digital age.

took this one, saw these in a pool and knew what they were so I figured I'd test the camera... very nice focus on this bad boy!

Growing up in the country, I used to think I was crocodile hunter.. not everyone thought it looked as cool as I thought!

+1

Johnny Reb...I don't know what those are. I'm guessing Gator eggs or something? Care to throw a little ejumakashun Billy Yank's way?

Close!

Frog eggs! Little tadpoles developing in the centers! Really cool stuff! I'd love to have a tank with some of these guys in it to watch the evolution happen! When I was like 12 I was heavily into amphibians/reptiles, and spiders and other funky bugs..

Then when I moved to a apartment complex, the other hooligans and I would blow up these bundles with M80s.... They're EVERYWHERE!

Don't tell PETA.
