Picked up this little guy on craigslist last week for 2600 bucks, clean title and only 6k miles. ive heard many a bearded flannel guys say "chrome dont get you home", but i know something they dont...it gets you laid :D

ANYWAYS

i just want a bike to rip around town on and go way too fast and piss off neighbors and i wanted it to look skinny and minimal too. so i had some cool risers and little drag bars around in my garage, stripped the wiring harness, ditched some chrome, found some cool old shocks in a box in the back of garage company that i cleaned up, a sullys 2 up seat from lowbrow along with a new whiskey throttle (that thing is the bees knees BTW) and i just won this tank on Ebay and that should be here in the next couple of days. i still have more to do on the bike and ill post some more pictures as it comes together along with the parts im using and/or modifying and reviews. im trying to use semi top quality parts on this bike instead of cutting corners so we will see what happens. also going to try and make it go faster :clap for you:

Nice score. That bike looks to have been treated well by the previous owner.
Keep documenting the changes you make to the bike. I'm curious to see what you do with it.
If you're looking for performance put your muffler back on.

That's a vacuum canister for emissions. You can take it off, just plug the lines that go to it. I think one goes to your gas tank, the other to your intake.

OK so heres a little update on where im at...

started to tear into the wiring, im running a headlight, tail light/brake and starter button. thats it so im just slowly going wire by wire and slimming it down as much as i can. gone through tons of threads on here and other places to get a good idea of what i can and cant keep

heres the mess as it sits
http://imageshack.us/a/img717/2733/img0564rb.jpg

im also going to re locate the coil and ignition too it looks so much cleaner already without it crammed up under the tank
http://imageshack.us/a/img69/4059/img0563rq.jpg

and i scored a killer deal on this PM clutch perch. im stoked on it i kind of wish it wasnt chromed all crazy, but i dig it. also got these joker machine grips and theyre rad. really soft and they dont feel cheap at all like i thought they would
http://imageshack.us/a/img687/3435/img0572ek.jpg

i have a small nissin master cylinder on the way so that will be another check off the list soon too. for now im just waiting on the tank, slowly tackling the wiring and deciding how i want to re locate that stuff. oh i also got some fancy cloth wiring for anything that will be exposed and its black and gold to match the tank
<img src="http://imageshack.us/a/img839/923/img0567uv.jpg" alt="Image Hosted by ImageShack.us"/>

heres a picture of where im doing all this. a single carport (equipped with top of the line ikea curtains instead of walls) in the South Bay of Los Angeles. its fairly full at the moment...

i did a really neat thing with the vapor canister mount... since it is already bent; i took it and rounded it so it would flow with the primary cover , welded it to the bottom of the battery tray then put my key switch and start button in it. with the bend it has a gusset already.

Hey man killer sporty and for a great price. I was wondering if you could point me in the direction of where you got those risers?

the push button switch is from POSH really high quality stuff there really stoked on that. i might change the location of the switches later on but for now im going to keep them on that cover. the tank is rad now i have to figure out what im going to do about the fender... not sure if i just want to cut the stock one short and spray it black or if i want to go craigslisting for something different. maybe you guys can throw in your .2 cents.

also got the PM clutch perch installed and my buddy is milling out my nissin front brake master cylinder as im typing this so ill post pictures of the controls tonight.

That looks like an interesting way to frisco mount your tank...care to elaborate?

ya i was torn between a few ideas and ended up going this route...
so i could have actually frisco'ed the tank and lowered the tunnel which i think i have the ability to do, but i really wanted to keep the original paint. there are plenty of bolt on tank lifts you can find on the interweb, but i didnt like the look of any of them, so i made my own out of mild steel. the last picture is the direction of how they will look when finished. the first picture you can see that its just a square strip of steel. but im going to try and make them flow and look as clean as i can. i think that the most common way to do it is drill a hole through the frame and run the bolt directly through there, but when i looked at that, the bottom of the tank didnt flow right with the backbone, with this setup the lines of the tank work much better IMO

i totally agree, i think that when im actually finished with everything and its all painted, you wont even be able to see them and they will look minimal. the main reason is that when you find a rad tank (like this black one) or you have a nice tank that you dont want to hack up, it will give you that frisco look, but thats why i wanted to try and make my own to see if i can make it look invisible and not so bulky and out of place. i think youll be surprised with the finished product, but i agree the standard tank lifts are ugly and dont look right.

You've gotta move that key switch and coil, that would really clean up that side profile. Nice work on the lower sliders too! Also, might I suggest rounding off the rear fender cut. Trim the rear struts down a touch and move that bolt in where the next hole that way you can round off that fender a little bit, its the one bit that sticks out to me.

ya thats in the works right now. im working on a coil mount and figuring out exactly where i want that key. im also starting to bounce around the idea of fabricating a piece of cold rolled steel to border the end of the rear fender. i think it would really tie together the rear end and look rad if it were polished against the black.

Did you finish up the wiring? You can get rid of of the starter button and the wiring if you go with a push button on the starter. You should be able to run 2 wires t the front for the headlight and two for the vacuum pump under the tank and two to the coil. Last bike I did that wasn't mine had 6 wires to the front if the bike.
