View Full Version : cb750 70's chopper!

02-11-2010, 11:11 AM
I got this cb from a buddy of mine, it needs some love and care but I'm totally stoked on what the final product will look like. Almost built my xs650 into a long bike, glad I didn't. Harman front end, 21" with a minidrum, drag specialties king n' queen, octogon oil bag, came with a low tunnel sporty tank but will have a prism tank when all is said and done... Now if I can just keep focused on the xs I'm in the middle of.

nice project you got there.

02-11-2010, 7:48 PM
most excelent score there friend. Is that a mini drum up front?

02-11-2010, 10:20 PM
That thing will require two hits of acid before painting it! Cool

02-12-2010, 10:29 PM
thanks for all the good feedback, this thing has overtaken my brain. The paint will definitely be out there, i'll have to be in that right mind if ya follow. It is a minidrum up front that is needing a few things to be tip top. Good news is that the rockers are movin on the front end and i've got marvel oil soaking on top of the pistons.

Nice I what to build something like that next.

Been a while so here's an update. The engine is officially un-seized, and has been soda blasted to get the crusty crinkle paint gone. Bill over at Executive Choppers was kind enough to not only help me out with getting the proper lower tree/stem, but also emailed me some pics of a cb they have in their shop that confirmed the frame was built by Harman as well. So here I am fuckin stoked to be building my own Harman chopper. Also I had the frame blasted and the cracks were welded up by my pal Kelly @ http://haifleybros.blogspot.com , I found a cute little 17" front with a minidrum at Goodguys last week, and my buddy Brains sold me a prism tank he picked up off of craigslist this morning. And last but not least, it looks like I am selling a pile of hot rod parts this week that will provide the dough for my carb kits, electronic ignition, rear tire etc...

And now my computer is being a shit, so I 'll have to post this, restart, and post some pics.

03-19-2010, 8:28 PM
Trapper, hopefully you can post up some pix of the stripped down frame if you have some. Interested to see that.

Gonna be a great bike.

It's funny you should ask, I took a few while trying to figure out the builder.

I realized I hadn't posted any of these.

Honda chopper and other stuff here... sometimes

Very cool. I'm digging it.

Interesting single post frame. That has just a fantastic and classic stance. You could put damn near any tank and seat on it and it would stand out, just from the design standpoint....

Update time!
It's been an eventful couple of weeks. As of right now the dyna electronic ignition is installed, I picked up an Avon 16-5.00 rear tire, a 17" front runner with a mini drum and rideable rubber (now I can swap back and forth with the 21"), the carbs are disassembled and being rebuilt, dyna coils and wires are headed my way from lowriders by summers, stainless spoke and nipple set for the rear (the rear hub is coming back from the polisher this week too), and finned clutch cover are coming from ebay auctions. I picked up this killer fiberglass rear fender that my friend Chris is going to mimick and build out of steel for the rigid frame, some spoon passenger pegs and shorter prism tank from the Shrine swap on sunday. Also, I picked up a ridiculously badass king/queen from a buddy that sends this thing over the top (pictures to come). I have been swapping the tanks back and forth for the last couple days and can't get my brain around which is "right" on this bike. The day I got the short tank I was ready to turn around and ebay the thing, then yesterday it looked a little better, and today better still, but I'm still diggin the shit outta the long tank....

I'd say the longer tank all day (if you give a shit).

03-30-2010, 9:17 PM
Thanks for the input, when ya stare at something long enough it is nice to hear what other people see.

This will probably be the seat, dig it.

Lookin good! Seat angle follows the angle of the front forks pretty good!

04-01-2010, 6:05 PM
That bike looks bad ass. I really dig the style of it. Seat is sweet too.

04-02-2010, 11:00 AM
I got to say I like the long tank myself. And that seat rules that bike so hard!

With a seat like that you need the longer tank to store more fuel because it looks comfy as hell!

I'm also liking the single seat post too. It makes the frame look right.

Does the motor mount up using the three bottom mounts? With the back top motor mount unused?

04-02-2010, 3:43 PM
The long tank is almost the hands down winner, but that little guy has that slightly earlier, peanut style look to it. It looks like Nick doesn't want to let go of the seat, but Kelly @ http://haifleybros.blogspot.com is going to build me one almost just like it, just refined to the honda's specs and style. The steel rear fender is coming along nicely and I will post a couple pictures of it's progress real soon. Oh, and to answer your question Anthem, the top rear motor mount is missing off of the frame and will be replaced before all is said and done, but it does look like someone was running it with just hooked into the front and lower mounts.

04-14-2010, 10:12 AM
Update time- I got the rear hub back from the polisher and got a stainless spoke set from buchanan's, all laced up and I'm trueing it today. Also, the molded rear fender should be done this week and it is looking killer. My buddy Chris used the original fiberglass fender to make a mold and then cast it out of aluminum, he then shaped some 16ga steel over it and grafted that piece on to a new 6" flat fender and added the skirting at the tail end. Been trying to locate the dyna coils I bought, but they are fuckin huge so hiding them under the tank might be a little tricky. I am thinking of going to a regulator/rectifier unit to make more room in my electrical box for the coils.
