Just finished putting together an article on board track racing. Includes some interesting facts, old race photos and even some original video footage.

The 2xs were set on their end not laid flat!
Just some quick math and correct me if I'm wrong, but that works out to be approximately 113,142 16' 2x6's for a mile long 50' wide track.
Rough estimate, if you multiply 113,142 x @roughly $8.00 for a 16' 2x6 that works out to be about $905,136 just for the wood for the track. That is just a guess on size of track and price of 2x6. That wouldn't include the framework underneath. Plus, I can't imagine how many nails they would have to use!

Compared to the cost of Dirt work and asphalt for a track today, it looks like the board track is still cheaper to build materials wise.

It probable took them almost a year to build one of those tracks and most were only open for 2+ years I read that alot of people would just stand at the top of the track looking down into it and when a biker lost control they could slide right up the track and into the crowd. GREAT POST
