Thought I'd post my newest project.......76 Kawasaki KZ400 -- Hardtailed

Took me about 10 months to get to this point.

Lots of good deals on parts and alot of me changing my mind in mid stride.

Anyway....to the PORN!!!!

can u give me someinfo on the frame?

Frame is stock cradle & Custom fabbed hardtail.

3" of stretch & stock spacing. (Re-used stack spacers.)

Hardtail was actually welded lower on the backbone to show off the shape better.

Other than that....not much different.

Here is a pic during the build that shows the backbone

Looking for ideas....maybe just a stripe, but keep the raw....or maybe flat black and gray???

We'll see.

Are they the original hubs/forks?? I'm going nuts trying to find hubs to fit my z750 twin.... Need to build up a 21 for the front.... Are there any kwack motorcross wheels that would straight swap?

sotagoon

Local guy here in MPLS turned the lowers.

The front is a 21" from a Honda xl175...1975 I think.

Just bought a new cable and away we went.

Thanks for the complements.

Sorry...haven't been very active lately....the little lady has got the big "C"

Just takin care of her for a while.

man, love this kz
you gotta keep the raw...that bare metal is so beautiful on this bike.
keeps with the look/feel that you've made this completely your own.

this makes my kz lust/want grow even more.

Here she is...all torn down and getting a nice coat of Semi-Gloss.

Tins are going to stay raw......just had to paint the frame.

I don't think I'm going to clear the raw either......just oil it every now and then.

I will be painting the inside of the rear fender.....that way the rust won't eat away from the under side.

I'll post picks as I get more done.

***OH, and as a total BONUS....I was going to have a couple of things blasted so I could cover them with paint at the same time.....and I hit the jackpot on Craigslist.....a table top blasting cabinet with (3) buckets of different media....$60.......Man I feel good!

Hey Sotagoon. Keep coming back to look at this one - love it!!

I have a question...
Did you lower the forks? If not have you ridden it yet and if so has the front wheel ever caught the frame / lower yoke??
Hope the little lady is doin ok.

Dave........Rick in South MPLS did the lowers on his lathe.

All I did was lowered the fork tubes through the trees....No I've never popped the frame...but I've got it set up pretty stiff.

Little lady is going through a rough patch.....I've never wanted anything more than her to feel better and get through this.

Thanks for asking about her.
