View Full Version : Anybody running a wide WM3 2.15" front rim with a 21" Speedmaster?

I just got a 21" x 2.15" WM3 front rim for the front wheel I'm building. I'm surprised at home wide the rim is. I imagine this is used on new, stock bikes with wide, low-profile tires, but how is this going to look with a 3" Speedmaster? The rim is over 3" wide in total, and will basically be as wide or even a little wider than the tire.

Anybody running this setup and have some pictures to post?

Thanks.

Not a speedmaster,,but great looking wheel,,the only way I feel the 21" looks good is with the wide tire. The drop center rim is cool as well

Avon recommends that size rim for the 3.00x21 i think

Thanks for the responses and pics, guys - much appreciated. Yeah, it's definitely within the recommended range; I was just worried it would look awkward, as a lot of the old bikes have 1.6" rims or Akronts.

GRHebard, do you know offhand which particular rim that is? Could I bother you to give me a max width measurement of the rim and tire?

Yeah, it does. I was wondering what the rim actually measures, and what the tire itself measures. Mine looks like it might be wider (maybe a thicker rolled edge), despite being the same 2.15" nominal size. It measures almost 3.25" and is wider than my rear rim! I just don't want to dish out the money for custom spokes and lacing before knowing how it will look...
