View Full Version : wanting to fire an old and crusty tr6r

any tips on what to look for or some prep for an old motor to start up....or should i wire it up and start kicking? i've kicked it over and l believe the compression is decent but ive never kicked a triumph before.

anyone have a points ignition, rectifier, and some coils for sale???:)

Drain the sump , I like to remove the timing cover and prime the crank with a oil can . Drain the gas , make sure the carb is clean and the slide moves up and down freely . Spray some in the cylinders to lube the rings , I would put new plugs in it . Also while the plugs are out remove the valve inspection covers and slowly turn the motor over making sure the vavles open and close . Somtimes the get some rust on them in the open position and they stick open then when you kick it over you chance bending a valve . fresh gas and power to the - side of the coil . If all is good it will start in a couple kicks period . Make sure you top off the oil or change is .
