Never posted on chop cult before but am on it looking all the time. Finally decided I should put up my bike that I am building right now. I got it back in Aug 2011, 1997 sportster with 7k miles, has the HD dealer installed 1200 kit the previous own had installed. Besides that it was pretty much all stock. Here are a few pictures of it over the last year up to the point of this last build that I started last Monday.

Day I brought it home

Then I got hit by a mini van on the 5

Long beach swap meet was two days after I got hit
http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr261/shaneschoolie/IMG_1400.jpg

Then I road it to Wisconsin from Los Angeles and back.
http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr261/shaneschoolie/IMG_1520.jpg

Then I lowered it and got some pipes at the swap meet
http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr261/shaneschoolie/IMG_1962.jpg

Then I wanted a cafe so I put clip on and read sets on

So then I decided to get the new hard tail that lowbrow has for my year of sportster. Ordered it on April 18th and had it May 9th.

So that takes up to last Tuesday when my buddy and I started this project

Once we had fallowed the easy directions that came with the kit we primed and painted the frame

Put the motor back in on Friday and converted the belt drive to chain using the DIY in the Greatest hits.

Sunday was Long Beach swap meet so went and got an oil tank, new rear tire, sissy bar, new throttle cable to work with the new throttle body I bought on ebay and a bitchin rear fender
http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr261/shaneschoolie/IMG_2215.jpg

Today the oil tank got mounted, battery box welded onto the frame, worked on getting all the nasty paint off the fender and worked out most of the dents. Still needs to have the holes welded up. Also started painting the tank. Also started to play with the headlight, I love the look of this light be pretty illegal so will have to change it...

http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr261/shaneschoolie/IMG_2232.jpg

Tomorrow I should have the fender and sissy bar on and hopefully the oil tank all hooked up. Then building the pipes and cleaning up the electrical system and all that ugly stuff above the motor... Plus any more painting and I'm sure much more that I am forgetting about right now.

Im trying to decide if I want to go with the weld on hardtail or just get a new frame. I appreciate all the pics. Its just making the decision harder though.

Nice build... I like the upswepts following the sissy bar, I think they would look better behind the sissy bar but thats just my 2 cents

The Vulcan front end pretty much went right on almost perfect, just needs a little tweaking. I'll post pictures when I get around to making it work right.

Been working on it and it's almost done. Gotta clean up the wiring, bleed the brakes, and put oil and gas in it. Hopefully will be on the road tomorrow. There are still things that will change but I want to get out riding it.

Build is coming along nicely....that Hypercharger has to go, it doesn't fit with the build style. Probably should have done a whole new wiring harness yourself, it would get rid of that wad of dreadlocks you got behind your electric box.

Everything lined up and worked great with the calipers. I rode it home from my buddy house last night 40 miles and it all works great! Hypercharger will be the next thing I change as it really don't fit with this style. Wiring has been taken down to hardly anything since the last picture. I will post up a few more once I get a chance today or tomorrow. Built this thing in only 16 days! Pretty happy with it although there will be more changes in the next few weeks.

Alright got it all dialed in for the moment. First thing I will be buying when I get a little more cash is a velocity stack to replace the hypercharger. Pretty stoked with how this came out. I mean it seems like I still have lots I want to do and redo but I'll ride it for a few weeks and enjoy it. Thanks to Fleabag for all the help and providing a full garage and almost every tool I needed.

The bike is looking badass. How is that 800 Front end working out?

Joel845
06-08-2012, 11:59 PM
I actually just have the stock sportster front end, I need to do a little more work to get the 800 to fit. I really want the 21 spoke up front so I gotta get on that.

Getting ready for born free. Got a new headlight and aircleaner at the long beach bike swap meet. The speedo censer had a busted o ring that was causing an oil leak so I fixed that along with reroute some oil lines, new free flowing petcock to replace the jerry rigged vacuum petcock we took apart and made free flowing. Really like the new aircleaner, so glad to have the hyper charger off!

GREAT LOOKING BIKE! i am in the middle of hardtailing my 96 883 with the same lowbrow david bird hardtail(2inch stretch and 3 inch drop)and i was wondering what all you did to the wiring harness? i just hard tailed it and i will be test fitting all the parts before i paint it but i was thinking about where to hide the wires and where you stuck all your wiring and harness. Thanks for your help bro!

Great job on the build. What did you use for the rear brake, stock or aftermarket set up?
