I am wanting to switch to a dual sport helmet and have been looking at several different ones. my favorite of all is the Arai DS helmet but the price is keeping me from buying it, the next in line is the Joe rocket DS helmet witch I like but can't seem to find replacement or dark shields for it. And third is the Fly trekker DS helmet. this one is only 125.00. I prefer the smooth helmet and the straight visor of the arai and joe rocket ones but like the price of the fly trekker. I am going to use this helmet for daily on road riding and really want it to have a dark shield. Just looking for the good and bad if anyone has any of these helmets.

The Fly trekker is absolute shit. It's the same as the AFX which is also absolute shit. Terrible fit, shit padding, and cheap cheap hardware.

I went through this last spring, trying to find a nice, affordable dual sport. In the end I just got a MX helmet. Hate to say it, but you really do get what you pay for.

Ive also had luck bolting a mx visor on my street helmet (great for the sun, but compromise's the visors movement, need to get creative...)

I have the AFX, same as the FLY as mentioned above. I am perfectly happy with it considering the 99 dollar price. Its not a Shoei or an Arai, but it fits ME fine.

I've been wearing a bright orange AFX helmet for a few years now. No complaints here. I'm kinda cheap though.

Shoei is the best. The Fly is not great. Not tried the AFX.

I have been wearing my Fox V3 and love it. Unless you NEED the shield, get a good MX helmet.

I have the variant. It's lightweight excellent finish and a washable interior. And in summer time the visor helps to swoop the air in

Go try them on. Fit is what will make it worthwhile for you. Like any full face helmet they all fit differently and we all have different shaped heads. My dome looks huge, when in fact it's just misshaped and not that big at all. Put a helmet on in the store and walk around with it and leave it on for at least ten minutes. If you feel pressure points at all in that time do not buy it. It'll only get worse over time. I left the helmet I have on for almost 45 minutes before I bought it and I have no complaints now, and I've worn in for over 15 hours in a day.

I thought somebody was gonna mention the Variant. I like those "intimidating" FF/dirtstyle helmets.
I wish Biltwell would come out with a D.O.T. that looks like those old Bells with the big opening for goggles
or the Shoei EX-6. I feel a little 'naked' in a 3/4. And only ride my bicycle with a half-helmet

I'm planning on picking up a Variant as soon as money allows. I bought a cheapy on/off from eBay to see if I'd like wearing that style and I do. Problem is, the one I bought is a piece of shit and HUGE, hahahaha

There's folks that would like to know what marked size HUGE might be..if it's a Variant that you got that's too
"huge" :-)

It's not a Variant. I plan on getting a Variant VERY soon.

The one I have was like $40 shipped, brand new. It's the same company as THIS (http://www.ebay.com/itm/BLACK-MOTOCROSS-UTV-DUAL-SPORT-HYBRID-HELMET-w-SHIELD-L-/150798473200?hash=item231c4a17f0&item=150798473200&pt=Apparel_Merchandise&vxp=mtr) one, but I don't have a shield on mine.

here's a pic of me in mine. The Variant is built with an oval styled shell, to make it fit smaller around the head. I think the mimicked a bowling ball when they made mine, hahahaha I can't really hate on it too much though, the price was cheap and it served it's purpose. If I had gotten a Variant instead of this, paid $400 for it and then HATED it, I would've been PISSED! Hahahaha

The Variant is massive compared to other helmets. Ive tried both the variant and the Arai XD and the

Variant takes the cake. Overall just a much nicer helmet and worth the money.
