So its officially winter and time to change things up on the bike. This is how we started:
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f50/chena2/Chen-Bike.jpg

I really wanted to step out of the comfort zone that is BLACK paint. You can't go wrong with black stuff, but its definitely time for something else. I like the copper on the bike, and i have a shitload of copper spraypaint left, so I'm gonna take it as far as I can.

Here's the plan: Buy a shitload of sandpaper, make stencils, buy some tape and lace pantyhose

Today was day one of this makeover, and I must say ,I got a shitload of stuff done. So this is where we stand as of now.

Strip down the tank, prime it, and put stencil and pantyhose to good use. So you'll notice that I moved the filler bung up to the top. The most annoying part of this process definitely was using Bondo and covering up the ugly patch that was in the middle of the tank.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f50/chena2/IMG_0111.jpg

Notice that one of the lines on the right is fucked up.....fucking tape wouldn't stick right b/c it was like 10 degrees.

This is a Bansky stencil
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f50/chena2/IMG_0114.jpg

OK, so i also did the rear fender, but I'm not really diggin how this came out, so I may re-do this. Went a little "stencil-crazy" and it just doesn't flow very well here:
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f50/chena2/IMG_0115.jpg

If you can't tell, the stencil is of a dude in a suit, who looks like he's ready to off himself. I put this one there, cuz i was diggin it, I probably feel like this at least once a week.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f50/chena2/IMG_0117.jpg

OK so next I stripped down the oil tank. And at this point there is already way too much copper shit on the bike. So what fucking color goes with black and copper? I stripped down the tank, and was really diggin the raw metal color, so i'm stickin with it.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f50/chena2/IMG_0118.jpg
...random-ass dre the giant OBEY stencil

Some other random ass shit I got done today:

Strip, sand, murder-out the wheels
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f50/chena2/IMG_0122-1.jpg

I also, sanded down the headlight; probably gonna leave it like this
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f50/chena2/IMG_0124.jpg

Cut, shorten, re-weld the headlight bracket....my ugly-ass welds LOL
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f50/chena2/IMG_0126.jpg

The headlight sits between the fork tubes much better now:
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f50/chena2/IMG_0127.jpg

Strip down the fork legs and threw some gaiter boots on there
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f50/chena2/IMG_0119.jpg

Thats all for today! I'll keep you fools posted on my progress.

I wasn't sure if i should've put this in the Jap forum, but I figured the most people would see it here, and because its mostly cosmetic changes it could be fun for everyone haha

after you've tattooed that image on half a dozen emo kids, it loses a whole lot of it's appeal. its only one step above the girl blowing her brains out/turning into butterflies. unfortunately, at this point banksy and shep are kinda like the punk rock equivalent of 'affliction' or 'ed hardy'.

i like the lace idea, and i like the color scheme. would like both a whole lot better without the dated pop culture imagery throwing off an otherwise timeless look. just my $.02

So I've been lookin at the pics and trying to figure out what i wanna do, I think I'm probably gonna get rid of the stencil on the back, just do the lace pattern all the way down. Probably gonna replace the 'andre the giant' stencil on the gas tank with this jackie chan stencil i found lol (its kind of an inside joke between me and my friends that will keep me amused)

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/83/238694874_ec62674c0d.jpg

I dig the stencil on the tank and probably gonna keep that. I feel so out-of-the loop with the contemporary art scene. I didn't know that the image was as played out and 'mainstream' as it was. But for me; I've never seen this image before and I really like it....I am seeing it for the first time. And just like anything, I will keep it b/c I like it, regardless of how played out it is in a small niche of world culture.....same goes with chopping motorcycles into tiny pieces and reassembling them in a manner that is more dangerous than stock, just gonna do what feels right to me :-)

but i do appreciate the comments....if you guys never told me, i never would have known hahah

man I don't give a shit what anyone says banksy is a gun and his stencil stuff is cool.

I'd rather knock up my own stencil for a bike myself but it still looks cool.

yeah I don't mean to be a total dick to you dude
your bike does look really cool and probably took a lot of hard work to get it where its at now

just the paint man... fuck.

Dude, I dig it. Who gives a shit if it's mainstream. It's your bike, and who knows, maybe it'll get you some hot indie chicks?

I mean, how many bikes on here have lace paint (including mine)? But yet you don't hear anyone bitching about the lace on your bike.

rus

lace is a 'traditional' sort of look that will always be cool. it's been used on bikes for half a century.

using 'street art' stencils found on the myspace background of every other angsty 14 year old girl just looks kinda like you bought your tins at hot topic. you might as well throw on an anarchy symbol, pierce your belly button and hope you don't get grounded.

heres my take on it man

not my style that i normally look at

but i give you respect that you did this shit yourself.... and thats all that counts....

just ride the shit out of it...

because when your blazin down the road at 80 plus the jackass's sitting with all the buddies talking about how cool " IT WOULD BE IF"......just see this crazy bike zing by them...and that makes them wonder what it looks like...

just my 2cents.. FUCK'EM!

banksy (http://www.banksy.co.uk/outdoors/horizontal_1.htm) = grafitti artist who uses stencils to paint other people's property.

emo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emo_Rock) = melodic alt music style identified by expressive, often confessional lyrics (Dashboard Confessional, for example)

Hey Chen, good to see you taking the bike to another level after the first build.

Do what feels good. This way they will never ask to ride it.

And as for me and what I think............glad you are the one doing it and not someone else, even if you gotta get some help from stencils or whatever.

"I Built Mine"...........you know it.

+1 on stencils on Choppers......thinking outside the box is cool

-1 for using Banksy & Obey shit...those guys have both become a part of the machine they wish to destroy (Especially Shep Fairey)

+100 for doing whatever the fuck you want, We are the next generation of bike builders, and can create rather than follow.

Keep the stencil, but fix that wavy line on the tank and the missing paint on the fender's lines. You'll hate yourself if you don't and it really won't be that much more work.
