I'm building a unit triumph and trying to stay as minimalist as possible. The man says I need a speedo, I've got the stock triumph geardrive on the rear wheel, I really don't want to bolt on a stock unit on the handlebars. (I'm running an early girder, so no trees to bolt to. )

I was wondering what other options there were or what tricks have been done to conseal the speedometer, Or at least make it look cool. thanks

or mount it with an ugly bracket to pass inspection or whatever you need to do.

then rip that shit back off.

That's what I'm doing for a front fender.
I'd like to go with out the speedo, but
Trouble is there are a lot of little shit towns around here with Barney Fifes that will nail you for 10 over their 25mph limits.

in order to get out of a ticket for doing 35 in a 25, you need to actually do 120 in a 25. then you'll breeze right past that ticket.

i can't think of a clever speedo location on a triumph that isn't near the bars. it all depends on what the bike looks like and how it's laid out. pics?

On my first test ride, I used sticky velcro to velcro my smartphone to the gas tank,it has shitty primer for paint anyways pulled up my GPS speedo app,and set it to HUD. I have tested numerous different speedo apps ,all are very accurate. tho they do take a second to catch up if your speed varies, but might save you from that 10 over ticket. I know this is not real practical,(ie wouldnt be able to use in rain) on the other hand it was nice knowing how fast I was going. 52 MPH seems much faster 24" from the ground. Felt more like 70.
I love that speedo thats mounted right near the axle, too bad ass !

bycycle speedo,, yeah i said it,, and it is small,cheap30,bucks ,,,(catseye brand)accurate, worst part was getting tire size right and puching it in .once set it starts automaticaly, every time it rolls.useing this till i get another speedo drive .,,for stock gauges.these units start on low end like 25 to 40 bucks some go up to 200 hundred, but think those have gps built in too.mine has total distance ,speed clock, few other features i dont use.but it works and wasnt a couple hundred bones to know how fast i,m not going,,,only draw back i can see is finding replacement batterys for it.screen size is like 2inch by 3inch.

I'm checking into the bike speedos, seems like there's some out there that will work. Gotta say that axle mounted one is so fucked up that I like it. Has anybody third the mini British ones that are out ? Can't remember where I saw it ,rask cycle maybe, half size version that runs of Brit geardrives.

My speedo cable broke and I needed order one so I bought a $10 bicycle speedo at walmart and a pack of "rare earth" magnets (look like little dimes, in the sewing section). I used a little JB Weld and stuck two magnets together to my brake caliper. Then I zip-tied the sensor and ran the wire up the forks.

Don't worry about calculating wheel size like they say. Just mark your tire and the ground, roll the bike forward for two revolutions (more accurate). Divide the measurement by 2 and then convert to centimeters or whatever the instructions say and input that. You can mount the read out piece anywhere.

These bicycle speedos could be the trick setup. Later.

My buddy runs a Bicycle Speedo. Small, out of the way and works. It gets him through the Inspection Station here in NH as well.

Saw the same thing in a Mag a couple years ago and thought it was a killer idea. Although I'm not really sure how that would go over with John Q Law and him handing you a ticket....

Hey Rob, most of the Ian Barry Falcon bikes have speedos mounted to their girders. Some look a little awkward like the black bullet with the 650 Triumph motor because it is mounted face straight up. But but not bad, something I find more tolerable than riding without one. The Gray Bike with the V-Twin motor has one too and the speedo is mounted facing the driver. Much better. They both look like they are running cables to the rear of the bikes. You should take a look at some of the pics on the Falcon web site.

I used an iphone mounted to my bars in a bicycle bar mount. There is a great free GPS speedo app. When I'm not riding there is just a small clamp in the middle of the bars thats barely noticable.

I mounted mine on the neck, its way out of the way, but its bulky so I ordered this to replace it.

Ok I like that mini one. Does it just have a magnet and pick-up setup like the bicycle ones do?

Screws onto a factory cable. They offer them in a few ratios, I just matched it to my stock one. I figure even if its off a little, I still have one, and can figure out what I'm actually doing pretty quick. Really, wether its a cable or wires, by the time you put a sheath over the wires, its about the same heading up the forks.

I don't see a ratio listed on that auction you posted.

Everything I found said it was the same as this one.

Gotcha. From everything I've found online, mine has that 2250:60 ratio (or whatever)

I've been looking for a GPS speedo. Right now they are very expensive so I'm going to build one. I have a friend that's building tiny computers that have GPS built in. I believe they are under $100. Then I just need to get a mini display and program it. I'll post up once I get it all together.

Im running a bike speedometer on my bike......backlit so you can read it at night.....gives temperature, time and tons of different distance/time funcions such as trip meter, trip time, average speed, top speed etc.

Cost me $30 on eBay....installed in 5 fucking mins. Quick releases so you can pull it off to look bad ass when your posing.

Downside....it looks like a bike speedometer.
